Story with Latest on Charlie Moore & Iowa

Fran has a very poor track record in recruiting strong lead guards. Gesell is the only one with a pedigree he has kept on campus.

People always say that like it's somehow more difficult to get a point guard than another position, and Fran just doesn't quite have the recruiting ability to pull it off. It's not like 4 stars are willing to come here if they're a 2, 3, 4, or 5, but really good 1's know to stay away. It's just random due to a small sample size.

I think it's safe to say Moore would be a serious step up at the PG position from either Bohannon or Williams. Nothing against either player, but neither seem to be a PG but both are combo or SGs. Moore is a true PG.

Averaged 28 points, seven assists, and five steals his senior year. Yeah, probably high potential at the college level.

Illinois is always getting the great Illinois players with high potential that don't really work out in wins and losses. There have been lots of high drafted NBA players that have bombed out. Moore sounds pretty good, but how he would effect the team is another matter. Williams has stuck with Iowa for a year waiting his turn, and its hard to imagine that Bohannon won't be a great team player. Both Williams and Bohannon have high abilities for the college game. I'm sure Moore does too. Williams had trouble being eligible his senior year of high school while transferring or he probably would of been rated higher. Bohannon and Moore are both four star prospects. I think Moore probably would make a difference to the Iowa team, but Williams and Bohannon should be great additions next year.

Bet he follows the old Memphis coach to Georgia Tech. His brother lives in Atlanta right now too. This one is over folks. Consider the schollie banked!

I think the biggest question mark is if either can make it at the college level. Moore seems like a for sure thing

A thing for him to consider with Illinois is that the coach has not met expectations and is working for a first-year AD that did not hire him.

Good points. But time and again, Iowa hasn't won out when "logic" says we're the better choice. Iowa is pretty stable right now and moving in a far better direction than Illinois. And, we have a very young team that he'd fit right in, with.

I'm not ready to give up. Iowa has more momentum than Illinois or GT and a lot closer to home than Cal, although that's the one that makes me a little nervous. But if he wants PT and to play with a friend, Iowa has to be in the mix.
Welp, I'm ready to give up now

This possibility has crossed my mind also. On the plus side his family could easily drive the distance to watch him play at Iowa. Not so much at Georgia.

I just saw the other thread and still think Fran and staff should still try to get him to come visit the campus. Were the new facilities available for him to see on his last visit?

I don't know if Moore will ever play point guard in college, but Williams already has and Bohannon is likely to play one at Iowa.

Moore probably wouldn't go to a college that wouldn't guarantee him a starting spot. The Iowa coaching staff probably wouldn't guarantee that with Williams prepping for a year. Bohannon looks like he will be pretty good too. Its hard to believe that Iowa couldn't make his top eight unless there was a reason. I think Williams is going to be pretty good next year. You can't teach his size, wing span, and athleticism. Moore might be pretty athletic, but he doesn't have a years experience in the Iowa system, and Williams size and wing span. It isn't a secret that Williams wants to be the Iowa point guard. I read where Moore is kind of runty at five foot seven. I think Williams is going to be a scorer for Iowa, and he should be able to outrebound a guy like Moore all day long. Williams has the potential to bring a lot of intangibles on the defensive end.

Is this serious? Moore is a pure point guard, Bohannon is a combo guard and Williams played the wing last year. Moore will be a great point guard wherever he goes

Sorry Charlie. You must be right. I'm looking forward to watching Williams and Bohannon play next year. Charlie Moore will probably be a good college player, but he isn't Gods gift to basketball.
