STORY (w/ video) T.J. Hockenson Still Mulling Over NFL Decision

He may think about it long and hard but I can't see him coming back... At worst he'll still get drafted higher than Kittle did. He'll be a 3rd round guy I bet. No more than 3 or 4 other TEs go ahead of him if even that depending how he grades out in testing. His floor is pretty darn high I think making him wanting to start his NFL clock to that 2nd contract get going. I highly doubt anybody giving him advice (besides the Ferentzs) would suggest he come back. But that's just my 2 cents

If he gets projected anywhere below the first round, I think he should stay at Iowa. Maybe, just maybe, if he looks like a very high 2nd round pick, he could make a case for moving on. Anything below that: Stay in Iowa City.

Kittle could have been like a lot of draftees who get lost in the shuffle. He was drafted by a lousy team with a pretty young good coach who gave him a good look, I have no idea what type of other TEs the 49ers had his first and second year but if he happened to be behind two really good TEs in his first camp he might have made special teams.

It is a crap shoot for these players. I hope George and all these players have safe and excellent careers

I'm just glad he's playing in the bowl game. It's good to see at least one of our tight ends being a team player.

If you are implying Fant wasn't a team player, you need to look at Ferentz as a "team" coach.

He may have been a team player during the season but he quit on his team for the bowl game. He's not a running back taking 30 hits a game. His chance of injury is about 0.00005%. He's also not helping his draft stock any by not playing. I appreciate the players who will be out their giving it all for one more game.

IF....and I mean IF, KF was playing games with him, I can give him a pass. I also would guess that there are black athletes that question KF, right or wrong. Only he and KF really know.

On a bit different note, Iowa has never updated anti-discrimination and harassment in their civil rights code. Police profiling is a real issue in Iowa and the laws make it difficult to do something about it. For most of us we don't really think much about it. It is a topic among minorities. That alone can dampen recruiting.

If KF was playing games then I agree. Out of all his flaws though I'd like to think KF wasn't playing games with Fant and intentionally hurting our offense because of his brother's tweeting. That would pretty much be unforgivable.

Some kid grows up in Mississippi or Alabama or Florida or Nebraska and says, "I don't want to leave this tolerant place for the unenlightened folk in Iowa."
That's how you think it works?

Why, when I read this post was I reminded of Monty Python - “And now, for something completely different’”.

He could improve his stock next year for sure.
Its a tough call, but I pretty much agree, if it isn't high second round (which could end up mid or low second round), $$$ and contract wise he would probably be better off coming back. Being so young and being on the radar is a good thing and it's something to build off of.

Personally, because he loves being at Iowa if I wasn't projected as the number 1 TE Id come back. ala Dallas Clark. I think he's first round if stays another year 3rd round if he goes now. For some a third round projection is fine to go but I don't see that with him.

People living segregated in the north is much more prevelent than in the south.

The Hawk getting a gun pointed at him a few years ago... not as likely in the south excepting the minority population is much higher. Iowa has quite a few of the highest percentage white populations in the nation.

Oh his chance at injury is significantly more than that. The argument can be made that by not playing and lowering his injury rate that is helping his draft stock by not hurting it... I wish he'd play too but if your a first round guaranteed draft pick there's big $ at risk. There's a risk in playing there just is and who am I to tell him there's not or he's wrong to think differently. With that being said it's his life. If he wants to quit football all together and go in the Army instead he can do that.
