Story: Coaches on Recruiting Trail, Watching TN RB

He is, and so is Ed Orgeron evidently......

KF is not a better coach than Les Miles. Are you watching this season unfold are at you just going to defend KF no matter what? Yes he had a great year last year but that is also the only season he finished ranked since 2009 and we're not going to finish ranked this season. I've always been a KF supporter but this Eno and Calloway thing got me off the KF love train that goes around here with the media and the people that are loyal to a fault

Versus not allowing them to go? again there's no certainty the recruit is invested whatsoever in the other school and could be in it for who knows what reason. So your recruiting strategy has a kid that may still be 100% committed to your program, but unwilling to agree not to go on official visits, get his scholarship revoked giving him a 100% chance of not joining the program as opposed to letting them go with a possibility they may swing change their mind.

Just my opinion but to me a strategy that ends in a zero probability of getting a recruit that thinks a policy is ridiculous to come to campus isn't a very good strategy. I'd take my chances with letting a kid be a kid in the hopes that he still agrees to sign in the spring.

But then again I'm pretty sure that same policy says IIRC, that once the player verbally commits the coach will no longer offer any other scholarships to any players at that position. So coach sees nothing wrong with telling the player he can't go on any more visits, but has no problem continuing to recruit players at the same position but he just won't offer. They're both shopping either way at that point.

Two conflicting opinions, but IMO a flawed recruiting strategy.

Edit: I should add that neither party has to be happy about it. It is what it is.

This isn't what happened. He was taking visits and was telling the staff he wasn't taking visits. The staff found out about the first one, he denied it, the staff overlooked it and reminded him to NOT take visits. He went off and took another visit, denied it again, and the staff knew full well he had taken 2 visits at this point.

Tk, 56, and many others on here think this is OK, that the staff should just accept the fact that Eno has now mislead them about 2 visits he took. Not only didn't tell them, but told them they never took place. Yep, just bury your head in the sand and do anything to keep the 4* kid happy is their philosophy......

Fact of the matter is no one including the recruiting sources know all the facts in the Eno situation. Who knows what happened in phone conversations between the parties. We've heard one side of the story for the most part and may never hear the other side if Ferentz chooses not to have that discussion once signing date passes.

Time to move on and get over it.

And we wonder why these football players make decisions like they are above everything else.....Welp it is because they just do whatever they want, and certain coaches and fans will turn a blind eye to anything.

KF haters don't like facts. They want to believe Eno started looking around because of our poor play on the field, when in reality he was taking stealth visits before we had a tally in the loss column. Not an intelligent move for a "leader".

And that's how you get elite talent. There's a difference in being lenient during the recruitment process and letting them do whatever they want when they get here. It's not like Eno is a threat to make bad decisions or has character issues because he wants to make sure he's making the right decision on his future. If that's the case all these kids were trying to poach are making decisions like they're above everything else too

Good God man, is this what you tell your kids? Treat them one way while trying to entice them into making one of the most important decisions they will make.....yet once they get here treat them in another manner entirely? IE we will overlook anything before you get here, but we will slam down a hammer on you once you are here. LOL, You either don't care WTF they do, or you do care....before or after they are here.

The staff isn't being unreasonable, that is the strawman you and other are presenting here. They are upfront with recruits and tell them this is what they expect. If they want to take other visit by all means do so, but not after you commit to Iowa. Not only that but they did give the kid a second chance, they understand that everyone makes mistakes. Yet when you do the exact same thing again after given a second chance it shows it wasn't a "mistake" but rather a pattern. Fool me once, shame on you.....Fool me twice, shame on me.....

Also nearly every other schools not named Alabama and Ohio St. ask and pressure their verbals to NOT visit other schools. How stupid would a school have to be to actually willing let them visit other schools? I mean seriously think about that for a second. Kid calls up KF and say, ya know what I was thinking I wanted to take a trip to ASU this weekend to check out that school. KF say, not problem and hangs up, we will still be here waiting for you if you don't like that trip. That is what you guys think is "good recruiting strategy"? LOL man, you guys crack me up.

There's reports all the time of committed kids taking visits to other schools...

While I'm not in favor of the lying if that's what took place to me its hypocritical for a coach to tell a player not to look at other school's when same coach is still actively recruiting players at the same position. In my opinion they are both actively recruiting. The problem I see is that in the coaches position it's ok to continue to recruit and look around they just don't offer. Where as a player can't even look.

The School's benefit from the players. The players benefit from the schools. I just think in this instance it's not fair for the Program to tell a kid that because they've committed they can't continue to look around when they're still looking around at players as well. I don't support the lying situation, but is the staff totally being honest with their recruits while recruiting them in the first place. It seems to me its a business of both sides telling the other party what they want to hear to make a deal.

I'm the only one who can see the point.

You and I just differ on acceptable behavior. I think the coaches were reasonable when they gave Eno a second chance after the Missouri visit and subsequent misleading about it. The coaches were ok with giving him a second chance, they understand that kids make mistake. Yet when he does it again, just a few weeks later, and the subsequent misleading yet again, where do you draw the line? Obviously you and 56 and other feel it is ok to give special treatment to Eno because he is a "life changing" recruit......Others like me feel that is what leads to toxic environments like Penn St. and Baylor where it foster the attitude of "just look the other way".

So now we are equating recruiting visits with rape and sexual abuse. That's one of it not the stupidest things I've ever heard.

So why do we try to poach kids then? Only take visits after you commit to Iowa but we'll try anything to get you on campus after you're committed to another school

Not a good comparison at all. The kid is still getting recruited, and the coaches are still recruiting. The coaches don't tell them they expect ZERO contact with these schools. They tell the kids that they won't offer anyone (not that they won't talk to anyone) and the recruit shouldn't take any visits (not that they won't talk to another school).

Coaches want control over their recruits. Recruits still want that freedom and power that comes with the courtship throughout the recruiting process. Whether its a stupid policy or not (which I feel it is) the bottom line is its nothing more than a policy. If its not going to be a rule that's going to be enforced all the time why have it, because its going to cause nothing but problems.

Jfc. Why should any recruit have to tell a future coach where he is traveling? Kirk is a control freak. End of story.
