Just curious if the events of this season have made you reconsider your allegiance and patience with Coach Lickliter. Do you still believe he can be successful here and do you think he deserves another year? Would you be out right against a coaching change or get behind the move if it were to happen? Thanks, enjoy your takes.

Not Justin but think Lick deserves another year and think he will say the same as well.

And what has he done in 3 years that makes you feel he deserves another season?

Well he either believes in unicorns or is related to Lick. :)

Only kiddin hoffa. I have no problem if people want to give Lick another year. I don't understand it...but to each their own.

I don't know if he will be successful year at Iowa or not. He's made some mistakes in the past in recruiting (and how the staff failed to hit up the AAU connections). He has also failed in the department of getting an assistant who is a recruiter. Instead, he has decided to put all his eggs in his basket with former players and colleagues that aren't high level recruiters.

It is possible for this system and this staff to succeed at Iowa, though. It is possible.

Looking at this team before the season started, I didn't forsee Anthony Tucker getting in trouble again and letting down his team. I thought he would be the man for this team - it didn't happen. Instead Lickliter had to play his son. I also didn't envision Fuller being down for a good part of the non-conf season with a bum ankle. It's not anything other teams haven't encountered, but it did hurt Iowa.

Lickliter should (and will) get at least one more year to see what he can do with this recruiting class, one that's one of the best Iowa has had in the last decade. It will be the class that makes or breaks Todd.

I think we'll know mid-year next year if Todd will be back.... that is unless he leaves on his own terms.

Iowa needs to get to at least .500 next year at a bare bare bare minimum for Barta to keep him around next season. 17 wins would be easier to see progress, though.

If Iowa were to move to a different coach at the end of the year, I would have to know who the replacement was before I could approve or disapprove. For instance, if Iowa somehow got Pearl - they, by all means, go for it (won't happen, but that's an example).

The class coming in is better then Horner and crew?????? Quoting University of Iowa publications, "Along with helping guide the Hawkeyes to 46 wins over the past two seasons, Neal has been instrumental in Iowa's recruiting efforts. Iowa's incoming class for the 2006-07 season is ranked by more than one publication as one of the top 10 classes in the nation." Now this class is rated 7th in the B10 not the nation. I don't think the system allows for difference makers to come to Iowa. My thoughts but I think they are good ones. Nobody coming in is gonna get this program to a tournament within 2 years...and what 1 maybe 2 rides the following year?
Found several articles on our class of 2000....
5. Iowa: C Jared Reiner, 6-11, Tripp-Delmont, SD; F Glen Worley, 6-8, Iowa City-West, Ia; G Brody Boyd, 5-10, Dugger-Union, Ind; F Courtney Scott, 6-6, Lansing-Waverly, Mich; F Sean Sonderleiter, 6-9, Des Moines-Christian, Ia; F Reggie Evans, 6-8, Pensacola-Woodham, Fla/Coffeyville CC, Kan. Guard Luke Recker and guard Ryan Hogan, both redshirt transfers, also join the Hawkeyes. One of the top Hawkeye classes ever as Coach Steve Alford signed a highly-rated center in Reiner, who passed on UConn and Kansas; a top forward in Worley and an unbelievable shooter in Boyd. Evans is considered a top junior college prospect at power forward and Hogan played at Kentucky before transferring. The huge prize is Recker, who transferred to Arizona from Indiana and then moved to Iowa in order to be nearer his family and girl friend, who was seriously injured in a car accident. After an appeal, the NCAA allowed eligibility this fall. Recker averaged 16 points as a sophomore for the Hoosiers and was third-team all-Big Ten. The Hawkeyes already have a junior committment from one of the top guards in the nation, Pierre Pierce of Westmont, Ill.

You might want to re-read my post. I said "one of the best" classes this decade. Not THE best.

7th in the Big Ten is very subjective. I've read/heard from 4th to 8th. Multiple sources put this class in the Top 30. I think we can all agree it's Top 40. That's a solid, solid class. A program building class.

Iowa still needs "THAT GUY" though. I don't know if they'll get him with out recruiters, though. Chasson Randle would be "THAT GUY"... it'd be a huge get, albeit very unlikely.

Just messin with you man...you know I love your opinions...hopefully we banter with facts...which I think we do. I agree this class is solid, but show me somebody out of that group that can break you down and score when their team has to have it.

Oh, I never have any quarrels with you. I have a lot of respect for your opinions, always have. Doesn't mean I will always agree w you. :)

As far as that go to guy, he's not in this class. Brust COULD become that guy, but he's not that guy right now, IMO. Maybe in a year or two? We'll see. Iowa needs to use a 2011 schollie on a difference maker.

Stormin, I agree Lick will and should get a 4th year. Also agree that next year will be his deciding season here. I don't however think .500 will or should save his job. To me the 17should be the bare bare minimum, and I think I would set the bar a little higher than that.

In 4 years, regardless of the circumstances that should be considered fair.

I should also add that if the Fuller transfer rumor turns out to have legs, that is a deal breaker to me as well. There has been way too much of that to ignore any more transfers this season.

Stormin, how in the world can you say a guy 'could be become the guy...' to break somebody down?

He is not doing it now. Is he going to flip a switch and, suddenly, he is a couple of gears quicker? Just does not happen.

From the game I watched him play, he is much more comfortable creating a shot using an off the ball screen. Not off the dribble.

Sorry, but I cannot agree with you here.

I think TL is done at Iowa. If Barta doesn't make a move today, after we are another no-show,then he will after we see more players leaving after the season is done!

personally i have seen less than nothing that would say that Lick should be getting a 3rd year period...he has set the record for losses all 3 years he has been here. Sure he has run some kids out of the program and uses the we are young excuse, but that is HIS own fault. There is no reason what so ever to sugest he should be back next year.

I know the transfer of another player or two will stir up the fan base further but I think it unlikely a decision on Lickliter will hinge on what individual players do. Barta will look at a much broader body of accomplishment, or lack thereof, and whether it demonstrates that Lickliter is meeting the goals set out in his contract.

(BTW Trainmaster love your signature!)

My hope would be if Lick is gone, they do it quickly, before any player announces a transfer...especially Aaron Fuller. We need that guy next year, whether lick is here or not. If lick is coming back, I want us to win next year. If he is gone,I want to win next year. We need Fuller to have a shot at that.

If we are going to win next year, Lick needs to be here because otherwise, we will look worse than Indiana did when Crean started....

Agree, Barta will look at a much larger body of work than one transfer. I'm guessing Barta already knows exactly what he is going to do and has a real good idea what it will take to change his course of action.

What I posted was my feelings of where things should stand right now. i don't necessarily mean that I think Barta has the same thoughts.

Re: Sig line. Thanks... not my own... not real;ly even sure of the origion I just iked it too. I'll keep it for a while.

Player improvement. Look at what Evan Turner was able to do from his frosh year to his junior year. I'm not saying Brust is even close that level, just an example.

I can't believe you are are quoting praise on the class of 2000. This sort of stuff just goes to show how highly ranked classes don't mean a thing if you can't get them to deliver.

The combined Big Ten record of this class was 28-36. They had one NCAA tourney win, and that was as freshmen (DeanO, Reggie, and Recker were the leaders of that team, which still went 7-9 in the Big Ten). I will give you Reggie and Recker as guys who really had an impact, even though they were only at Iowa for two years and had a 12-20 Big Ten record. How about the rest of the list?

"Top-rated center" Jared Reiner averaged 18 minutes, 6 points and 5 rebounds over his career.

Ryan Hogan averaged 6 points in his two years at Iowa.

"Unbelievable shooter" Brody Boyd averaged 7 points on 35% 3-point shooting over four years.

No one was more disappointing than Worley, who averaged 8 and 4 for his career.

Sonderleiter was at 4 and 3 until he got busted halfway into his senior year.

Cortney Scott turned into a great player... for Oakland.

I'm glad the article mentioned Pierce as well... that one really worked out.
