I won't get into specifics, as I told them all that I am was not on the record with them.

Long and short of it: they aren't happy the way this thing went down.

There will be some big-time mending that needs to be done, if at all possible.

Bummer!

Stormin do you know if current players talk to the recruits at all or if they have built any relationships? Not sure if it is possible with restrictions, but curious.

No offense to any of them because it sounds like they're all great kids......but as far as I'm concerned, they can get on board the "change wagon" and support the process of moving this program forward in the right direction or go the mid-major route like they would all be going if it weren't for an Iowa offer.

I agree that this could have been handled better from a PR standpoint, and it sucks for those kids.

But they live in 2010 and rumors get started. They are 17-18 year old kids who don't know the first thing about the pressure of major division 1 college basketball.

Nothing is going to happen until a new coach is hired. If we hire a rockstar coach, my guess is they all show up at Iowa. If we hire an assistant or a mid major guy, it is risky, but none of them are going to be released until we hire somebody.

Frankly, if they asked to be released, I wouldn't give it to them until we hired a new coach and gave the coach an opportunity to talk to them... if after that they still wanted out, then ok.

Once the LOI is signed, there aren't any restrictions.

Yes, there is some report and communication between both parties.

Whoopty Doo....lets see who the new coach is first and if they fit his style before crying over the possibility of spilling milk. Its not like we were bringing in Armstrong, Marble, and Horton.

Except for Roy Marble Jr - he should have an idea. I do get your point though.

Agreed. Hopefully whoever comes in will be able to keep things together with current players and recruits. If we got a big name we also have one scholarship open if a recruit would come with a coach. That could be big.

Remember, these guys had offers from different schools and chose Iowa over them. Now they are put in a bind because of this - they will need to figure what colleges might want them, what their options are, etc... time is of the essence because scholarships aren't plentiful.

Or, they could honor their commitment to the University and be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

Am I the only one that is not concerned about the PR and how this was handled? The media and us on these boards are somewhat to blame as well.

The only thing I am dissappointed about is that it may have taken away a little from the womens selection (hopefully) tonight.

I think Barta did a nice job at the press conference and I will give him a pass on Lick. Probably won't be so forgiving if this hire flames out.

Go Hawks!

Well, technically, we are bringing in Marble.

I sure hope they all still come. I was excited about this class, and they all seem like great kids that will really help turn this thing around and put Iowa back where it should be.

they will come once they meet the new coach. I'm sure they are nervous because of the unknowns. Keno will make it right with them

With all due respect, how would you expect things like this to go down?
They had to know he was not in a good position.
Maybe they need to spend some time finding out the inside scoop from the existing players and see who the new coach will be before they get too upset about it.

They are allegedly "not happy" about it. Most likely they are saying that to be respectful to the coaches that recruited them. They are not weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth. I'm "not happy" about it but it had to be done.
