Stoops

Wasn't there talk about it becoming a BCS bowl at some point? Or did the playoff thing squash that?

After the money scandal at the Fiesta Bowl a couple years ago there was talk of dumping fiesta from bcs and taking in Cotton Bowl. That was quite the atmosphere in Jerry Jone's house with the nearby schools going at it.

The orange bowl really stared to suck with the ACC tie in and loss of Big 8 OU-NE tie in. Plus the game was played in a ghetto, nice!!!!

To be more accurate, it started to suck with the ACC tie in when Florida State fell off a cliff in the middle of the last decade. That's the marquee football program in the ACC and always has been. When they went down, the ACC had nothing to offer.

Historically speaking, I think the Orange Bowl is more prestigious, although it's been rendered pretty much since the 2006 matchup between Penn State and Florida State (great game, too). Since then, they've gotten really lousy matchups (let's face it, Iowa-GT was pretty blah in terms of flash).

But the Cotton Bowl should have been in the BCS over the Fiesta from the start, IMO. The Rose, Orange, Cotton, and Sugar Bowls are the big four in terms of prestige.

I put the Cotton Bowl ahead of the Orange because how far they go back with the old SWC and then the Big12. The Orange Bowl was an at large bowl for a long time, in fact their ACC tie in did not start until the 90s. But again that is just my opinion. But back then bowl games were different and few bowl games had conference tie ins. At one point the Holiday Bowl had some prestige as it had a conference tie with the old WAC back when BYU was good. Back in 1984 it was the bowl that decided the national championship after BYU defeated a 6-5 Michigan. How times have changed (for the better).

B.Stoops BTK, loves iowa football, shows emotion, doesn't punt from the 31...but you all forget two things...contract buyout, son brian.

Maybe if one of the Stoop boys comes back to coach the Hawks in 2021 he can hire the Tooth Fair and Easter Bunny as his coordinators.

If your criteria for a good football coach includes "shows emotion" you suck.

LOL, well first off my friend, I wasn't laundry listing any "criterias" for a good coach. Further even if I was, how does any opinion I make determine whether I suck or not? What is it you imply that I suck at anyhow my young opinionated all knowing anonymous internet poster? Your comment appears like you have internal issues to work out.

FTR...I do prefer a coach to show a bit of emotion, ala Denver's John Fox or Hayden...yet remain mostly stoic and professional....although I do whole heartedly agree that it is not a pre-requisite to being a good football coach. If it makes you feel better, I lean way more to Ferentz's style vs paul Rhoads.

I also lean a lot more towards kf style than paw whoades. I never want to see a screaming meat head on our sidelines.

Bob Stoops doesn't lose to teams he is supposed to beat (C. Mich, ISU, Indiana, Purdue etc.) I would take him in a heartbeat, and I think if Barta came calling he would come to Iowa (on KF money of course).

You first problem is thinking there are teams Iowa shouldn't lose to.

They moved to the new stadium in '97 and the ACC tie-in began in '98.

Prior to that, the Orange was an epic bowl, and enjoyed an exclusive evening TV slot after the Rose.

Big Game Bob Stoops. With the resources and talent that guy has, he sure doesn't accomplish much.

Oh, but you know about him, so that means he's the best possible coach the Hawkeyes can get. I forgot how the blind faithful think...
