Stoops

Bob Stoops doesn't lose to teams he is supposed to beat (C. Mich, ISU, Indiana, Purdue etc.) I would take him in a heartbeat, and I think if Barta came calling he would come to Iowa (on KF money of course).

If Iowa was conducting a head coaching search Bob Stoops would be top on my list. I would take someone in a heart beat that still has 8 wins in a "rebuilding" season and has led a team to 8 BCS bowls (won 3 of them) in the past 14 seasons. Oklahoma would have been in a BCS bowl this season had NIU not barely qualified.

I believe they were in a BCS Bowl sir.

Oh and if you hear any Sooner fan complain about what Stoops has done at Oklahoma mention 2 names, Gary Gibbs and John Blake, and that should shut them up.

Wasn't there talk about it becoming a BCS bowl at some point? Or did the playoff thing squash that?

Yeah there was after they either improve the stadium or rebuild it (I forget which). It is a shame that the Cotton Bowl has not been a BCS Bowl all along. IMO it is the most prestigious bowl game outside of the Rose Bowl.

I know its still very early into the new year, but I nominate this thread for dumbest of the year.

Stoops has averaged 10.5 wins a season at Oklahoma. I guess that would translate into something like an average 8.5 wins a season at a lesser school like Iowa.

Historically speaking, I think the Orange Bowl is more prestigious, although it's been rendered pretty much since the 2006 matchup between Penn State and Florida State (great game, too). Since then, they've gotten really lousy matchups (let's face it, Iowa-GT was pretty blah in terms of flash).

But the Cotton Bowl should have been in the BCS over the Fiesta from the start, IMO. The Rose, Orange, Cotton, and Sugar Bowls are the big four in terms of prestige.

Boise State says hello.

Oklahoma has lost to at least one unranked team in every year under Stoops, with the exception of four seasons (2000, 2003, 2004, 2008). And in 2003, they got stomped by K State in the Big 12 title game, a game in which the Sooners were heavy favorites.

Bobby loses plenty of games he shouldn't. Not as many as Iowa has, but let's not pretend he always beats weaker competition. That's part of the reason OU fans have been getting a little restless.
