Steve Forbes being from Lone Tree actually a problem?

Could the fact he grew up soooooo close to IC actually be a negative. Sometimes when you are the home town hero it gets to be too much.... too much under the microscope. You are back in town and living next door to the guy you had a beef with in HS... or some ex-girlfriend... or you go out with some old drinking buddy and word gets out he has 3 dui's or something.

I'm not saying any of those things are necessarily true, but is it a possible issue?

No..

the things you mentioned are not an issue.

I think the fact that he has been away from the area so long would take care of those concerns as well. Sounds like an intriguing candidate.

I don't see it being a problem for any of the reasons you listed. If anything, I would only worry about it if he was planning to ONLY recruit from around the Lone Tree area, state of Iowa, etc. We need someone who will recruit on a national level.

I'm not concerned with any of the situations I mentioned literally. I'm more concerned with the "big fish in a little bowl" thought.

The men's head basketball coach at Iowa is the 2nd most visible position in IC. With that comes scruitnity. I think we can all agree it's different being a head coach here compared to some other schools. Because we have less going on and fewer public figures thats just the case.

Throw in the fact that it's a home town kid and it could cause problems. You give a small town kid 5+ million dollars and send him back near that home town to have him live and work and people tend to come out of the woodwork.

So you think that because he's from the giant metropolitan Lone Tree area, he'll be bombarded with old friends asking him for money?

This thread is beyond stupid, I doubt him being from Lone Tree makes him any less of a candidate.

I wouldn't worry about people coming out of the woodwork. I mean, everyone in Lone Tree already knows who he is, and he's probably related to half of them (this may be a bit of a high estimate, maybe 30%--no joke).

I know this is stupid, but I hope Steve Forbes doesn't get the job because his name sounds like he is a CEO of an evil corporation, or a d-bag politician.

I don't think he would have the success he is having if the location of his ex girlfriend affected where he would work or where he was hired.

No, being from Lone Tree only would help Iowa fan base build trust in him faster.

No. Lone Tree is unimportant. It would be no different if he were from CR, or IC, or West Branch.

My thought is this. Being the head coach of the Iowa Basketball team makes it hard to disapear. That is hard for some people to handle. Being from a town in the area could make it even more difficult.

I could see where being the "home town hero" could add a lot more pressure to the situation.

Let me get this straight...

Because he's from a town near Iowa City, he's going to be a worse basketball coach, than he would if he were somewhere else? Because he's going to feel pressure because he lives near Iowa city?

Right...

Maybe we should have him live in Chicago, and he can compute to work everyday. Do you think that would take this "pressure" off him?

While I don't agree with Duffman's point at all, if you don't understand it, you're the idiot.

Never said I didn't understand it, I want him to explain on how this has a direct affect on his abilities as a basketball coach.

I know what he's saying, but he has nothing to prove that.

Its a completely ridiculous concept.
