Stepping Stone???

Are we sure Iowa didn't throw in a couple of bucks to New Mexico to sweeten the pot as a incentive for them to take Alford?

If he has enough success here to warrant him getting big offers from back east, then that's a win for Iowa.

I highly doubt that Fran would be outwardly saying that was his plan. Especially with someone who shares "candid" conversations with random people on the golf course. Fran seems smarter than that. That is just my opinion.

So I played golf yesterday with a guy who has had a couple candid talks with Fran. He gets the vibe that if turns this program around, he would likely take a big time job on the east coast, if the offer was there.

So I ask Hawkeye Nation. If he makes the Hawkeye program successful…

1) Do you think he would take a job back east?
2) Would you hold a grudge?

I'm completely confused by this post. So, you're saying this contact says that if things go well, he will go to a better job in the East. Why bother to ask if he would go elsewhere if your contact already has a good feeling of it happening?

Just go with it. No point in asking the rest of us. Seems like once we win our 1st national championship next year, he will be out. Who cares? We're back!

By watching Fran on TV I got a "vibe" from him that his favorite flavor of ramen is pork...thoughts?

The guy I was talking to is not random to me, I work with him. We were at a golf event. I brought up how Woodbury might come to the Hawks. He then said he talked to Fran a couple times at neighborhood gatherings. Said Fran thought we had a good shot at getting him and he would be an immediate game changer. He then went on to tell a pretty funny story Fran told him.

He said he just got the feeling...not like Fran said this...der. You're right he is smarter than that. That was it.

So hindsight being 20/20 do you post something like this again when Fran didn't say anything and it is just a "feeling" your friend had? Maybe get some inside info in 5 years when/if he actually has rebuilt the program.

So in a candid conversation with (I assume) an Iowa fan, McCaffrey lets slip that he will bolt for an east coast job after he rebuilds Iowa? Sorry, but this is highly suspect. He has talked at length about wanting his kids to grow up in the Midwest and play sports. Where do you think his kids have a better chance of playing sports? Iowa or New York?

He has stated Notre Dame has always been his dream job, so I could see him going there at some point, but it would take more than getting Iowa to the sweet 16 of the NIT or a second round NCAA loss. Suffice to say, his kids are young and this team won't be rocking the top 20 for at least 2 years and that is being generous. Woodbury does not make us Duke, UNC, UCONN or Kentucky.

Let's worry about a coach who has been here for 1 year with 10 total wins leaving for a better job after rebuilding the program. Geez, did you go to the Rob Howe School of Journalism?

Because of this very credible source I think we now start a thread about who our next coach should be ... Unless your buddy is sleeping next to Fran and Fran talks in his sleep, I highly doubt he is giving off vibes this is a temp gig for him ...

Honestly,if Fran rebuilt the program to the point where he could get a bigger job anywhere, bigger than a Big Ten job, then I guess I could live with it,because that would mean that Iowa was back to being a great bb job, which means we could probably attract a very good coach to extend our excellent run. The problem with our last three coaches is that they left with the program down. When Lute left,it was in good shape, and Mr. Davis extended that run. The trick is to make sure the program is on solid ground when we hire our next guy.

Seeing as how we got outbid by NM for Alford's services and we are paying Kurt north of 3.5 despite his losing record to Northwestern and Iowa State, I'm at a loss as to who these successful coaches who have been paid top dollar are.

Did we really get outbid by NM or did we decide his services were no longer needed in IC? Many people in IC were fed up with Mr. Neat Hair.

And Iowa's FB record against two teams? Really? So let's just forget about the 9 bowl games, right? (During the same time frame ISU has been to 5 bowls, the last on in 2005; Northwestern has been to 6 bowls)

Your logic using these two teams is like saying Dan Gable was an average wrestler because he couldn't beat Larry Owings.
