Too bad for Koethe, I would have liked to have seen that match play out...

What a win for Kyven Gadson pinning Evan Knight!! I thought that Gadson would get him but I didn't see the pin coming! Hopefully we'll get to see Gadson and Riley in the finals.

Do you know anything about John Meeks? I know someone at Des Moines Roosevelt HS that teaches who I graduated from high school with, and apparently John Meeks is going for his second state championship this year. Said Johns a really nice kid too.

He lives in Des Moines (Cyclone territory), do you think we'll be a player for Meeks? (or is he even D1 caliber?)

Thanks

Meeks is definitely a D1 caliber wrestler and should keep improving. He won the title as a freshman last year and is well on his way to winning his 2nd this year. Iowa will have there hands full getting him away from Nebraska and Iowa State though! His older brother, who is a senior at DM Roos this year, has committed to wrestle at Nebraska next year which may give them the leg up right now.

John is definitely the better wrestler than his brother Blake and will be a prized recruit in a couple of years. He is extremely strong and athletic and has been improving with his technique and is a pretty complete wrestler. I do know that he is a freind and very big fan of Montell Marion and that will help Iowa's chances of landing him. I have heard that from a relative of Meeks...

That DQ didn't sit well with Koethe. The wrestlebacks are going on now.

152 - Justin Koethe (SO), Iowa City West Fall Nate Fennelly (SR), Indianola, 0:07

Thanks for the timely response!

Yeah I had heard his brother committed to Nebraska, and that Iowa was actually going after Blake, but that we weren't offering very much as far as money.

A guy I know in the Cedar Rapids area said he saw John Meeks last year at state and thinks he has the chance to be a 4 timer. Really impressive physically, really quick too.

Will Trizzino be able to continue in the semi's?

I don't really think that we'll know until tomorrow but I sure hope so. It would be a shame to see both him and Koethe knocked out of the winners side because of a slam. Hopefully Koethe can come back for 3rd and Trizzino can find a way to wrestle and get into the finals. Against Hawkeye recruit Mike Kelly of course! :)

Wish I could be up there, but I'm relegated to checking the brackets on the IAHSSA website. One of my students is there and has won his first two matches at 145. He's a great kid and I'd love nothing more than to see him grind out a championship! :)

I must be reading this wrong...7 seconds!!!! Did he stab him????? Im thinking he must be just a little p***ed about the slam.

Fulsaasfan, are you there? I am wondering how big of a crowd they are having?

I heard Jon Miller on the radio tonight, and he was at the State Tournament.

Anxious to hear his thoughts. (on Iowa recruits)

Anybody got any thoughts on the Creston Freshman Jake Marlin? is he the real deal? had a big win today over a very good wrestler and has another one in next round...thoughts?
