State Duals

I really wish there was a way get the State Duals moved up to a January date. But there's not so I don't mind the way it is now. I hated the duals the week after. It was brutal going to practice and making weight for state duals. If some coaches choose to sit guys out for it before the traditional state tournament, fine. There's still going to be a champion team, and no matter what that championship won't mean as much as the traditional title anyway.

Well at least the JV kids can have something to look forward to. This is a situation based on attendance and money not who the best dual team is. Its pretty pathetic. The state duals are a joke now

Agree with you guys 100 percent. Alan Beste and the IHSAA are a complete joke. Is there a way to get a petition started?? I will do the leg work to get every coach in Iowa to sign it. The excuse of kids miss to much school is complete BS. Move state back to 3 days (thurs, friday, sat) and put the duals back where they were.

As for the argument above about the extra week of practice come on really, you get 5 pounds and most the kids continue to workout anyways. Its a week dont sell the kids short because you want to make an extra buck.

no one likes the current format, but the old format wasn't any good either. and in the iahsaa defense, attendance proved it. the state tournament ending the season is great. make the petition to move sectionals and districts up one week and put state duals one week before the state tournament.

I just don't get why they can't have the duals towards the end of the week. It's just so stupid how they have it set up now. And the IHSAA claims it's because they don't want kids missing too much class.. pfff, please. What a joke the IHSAA is.

Total joke especially when Alan Beste (Exec Dir of the IHSAA) acknowledges that many schools will continue to wrestle their reserves at the state duals. Just feel bad that the State Dual tourney has turned primarily into a JV event.
Attendance was apparently up last year for State Duals but overall their was an attendance drop when you consider the Traditional State tourney went from 10 to 8 sessions. Wish the advisory committee would have listened a little closer to the input Coach Streicher (Linn-Mar) and Coach Frost (Nashua Plainfield) had on this topic.

I don't see the big deal. HS duals mean very little, no need to get worked up about it. The individual tournament is what it's all about. I like the fact that the JV/non state qualifiers get a chance to either get their first taste of wrestling in a big event or end their careers with a chance at winning a team title.

Call it what it is then......state dual JV tourney. I'm actually going to miss the battles between teams such as Bettendorf, IA City West, SE Polk, Waverly Shell Rock, Ballard Huxley, Denver-Tripoli, Dav Assump, Don Bosco, Nashua Plainfield, etc.
State Duals used to be one of my favorite events to attend as it was extremely competitive and highly entertaining. I will no long support it under the current format.
