Stat to Follow for Cubs Fans

When the Cubs score at least 4 runs they are 17-5.

When the Cubs score 3 runs or less they are 1-17.

The Cubs lineup is good enough to score 4 runs consistently. A-Ram and D-Lee have basically done nothing all year, so you figure their production has to go up and the rest of the everyday lineup is batting .285 or better.

I see Big Z being back in the Starting Rotation by June 15 and if the Cubs can add some offensive consistently (mainly getting A-Ram and D-Lee to wake up) they can get back into contention in the NL Central.

The Cards are good, but not great and I think the Reds will come back down to Earth after the All Star break.

The key for the Cubs is to score at least 4 runs and stay healthy.

Having said all this, I fully expect the Cubs to get hit 4 hit by Jaime Moyer tonight and lose 4-1 to the Phils.

Go Cubs Go!

I found myself wondering last week how it was statistically possibly for the Cubs to have three players batting over .340 at the time and still manage not to score any runs.

It's called getting most of your hits when nobody is on base.

Another interesting stat I read today is that the Cubs are 8-4 when Colvin starts. There's a certain energy with this team when Castro and Colvin are both in the lineup.

If we take both games in Philly, then the Cubbies will have me believing again.

The Cubs have a lot of wasted quality starts so far this season...but that's why the baseball season is long. It gives you an opportunity to work through slumps (see Aramis and D-Lee). I'm one of those cubs fans that will always believe, until they are mathematically eliminated. There's still about 3/4 of the season left! It's promising to have some guys still tearing it up in the minors as well.

The lineup I would use right now based on how everyone is playing would be:

Fukudome
Castro
Byrd
Soto
Ramirez
Lee
Soriano
Theriot

This lineup would put your hottest hitter in the 3 hole - still have A-Ram in a RBI slot and put a better 2 strike hitter (Theriot) in the 8 hole. I think Castro would benefit from being higher in the order and I think Theriot can handle the 8 hole very well.

I give this lineup a 1% chance of ever happening, but to me, this lineup makes the most sense right now.

Lee is killing us worse than ARam is. Lee hits into a DP every opportunity to knock in a key run. ARam is starting to put good wood on the ball, even when he gets out. I hope like hell we don't re-sign Lee after this year. Signing free agent to be Adrian Gonzalez would give us a 1B in his prime, and solves the left handed bat in the middle of the lineup that we've been looking for for years. Last year Lee had a great year, but had 3 sub-par years prior to that. He's on the decline, and there will be a ton of good free agent 1B on the market this offseason.

The biggest problem for the Cubs right now is they had a very easy schedule to start the season (havent played the Cards once) and they are still floundering. Until the bullpen gets fixed they arent going anywhere

Easy vs. Hard schedules in the MLB is totally overrated.

Tell me that when Carlos Silva and Tom Gorzelanny stop facing the Astros and Pirates and start trying to get through the Cardinals lineup. When your pitching is mediocre (like the Cubs) who you play makes a huge difference.

The Cubs are who they are: a mediocre team with a couple fatal flaws (terrible bullpen, aging players who cant produce at past levels and a manager who may be senial). Ok, that last one isnt proven but it could be true

The Cards are 23-17 because of pitching, not their offense. They are averaging a little over 4 runs/game, which is worse than the Cubs. If you said Phillies instead of Cards, then I would have no argument.

Over the course of the season this will even out and the Cards will produce runs. I expect their offense to pick up right around the 2nd time through the lineup against Carlos Silva

If Mark McGwire was half the hitting coach that Cards fans thought he would be, you would be 33-8 instead of 23-18. I dislike the Cards more than anything in this world, but Dave Duncan HAS to be the best pitching coach this game has ever seen, and it's the pitching that has your team 5 games above .500.

Oh, and by the way, 4 of 5 Silva's wins have come against teams that have scored more runs than the mighty Cards offense.

I am not a Cardinals fan - please apologize

Twins fan here but also a Cubs follower. As a Twins fan i know exactly how terrible Carlos Silva is. If you want to defend him thats fine but just know that he blows and its just a matter of time before you find that out.
