Starting DLine without Binns

I don't think there is any doubt that will the starting DL. Hopefully a LOT of guys get in during the 2nd half of E Illinois.

Daniels, Daniel, and Alvis will all be in the mix. Binns will get a one game suspension. He will miss Eastern Illinois, so it won't matter much. The other guys are hungry and are going to really get after it. Actually, it is a great opportunity to get these guys some reps. It isn't like last year when they threw Castillo out there against UNI or Lowe against ASU. The back-ups on the D-Line are good enough to start on most teams.

I don't think there's any way he gets off with less than a 2 game suspension...what he did is a very serious offense. I've lost friends to that crap and I highly doubt that Kirk Ferentz will take this as anything less than a serious issue.

Remind me, what team is the 2nd game on our schedule this fall?

Iowa State. That is why Kirk will suspend him for 2 games like Prater last year. You have to make the punishment severe enough that he will think twice about doing it again.

Umm, I know. Guess I should have used an emoticon to denote my sarcasm.

I was taking a shot at MesaClone, who obviously is hoping Binns won't be on the field for the ISU game. I have no idea how many games Binns will miss, and will trust the coaching staff to make the correct decision.

I don't think ISU falling in week 2 is going to have anything to do with Binns missing two games. In fact, the majority of your board thinks he'll only get one game because ISU is in week two.

I talked with a Hawkeye friend at the Panther Lounge today and we agree Binns will be suspended for 2 games. We think this should motivate Binns to prove something against Arizona.

We also believe Daniels will be the starter in games 1 and 2 but disagree if Ballard will be move to DE. I say no and he says yes.

Prater got a 2 game suspension last year for basically the same offense ... but from what I recall hearing, the punishment actually got STRETCHED to 2 games because of some of the excuses that Prater had been making.

Ferentz pretty much always treats these issues fairly and I don't expect things to be any different.

Going from the Prater precedent, if Binns is honest about everything and doesn't make stupid excuses, then my first impression would that Binns could potentially get off with only a 1-game suspension.

The only "curve-ball" that I could see that could extends things beyond a single game suspension is if Binns gets hit a bit harder because he's slated to be an upperclassman. That could potentially make a REAL difference. However, even in this latter instance, I don't see Binns getting a suspension that is any longer than 2 games.

Mind you, I'm of the opinion that a DUI is a serious offense and I'm not trying to indicate what sort of punishment Binns deserves. However, what I am pointing out is the likely duration of the suspension that Binns will likely have to serve.
