Prater got a 2 game suspension last year for basically the same offense ... but from what I recall hearing, the punishment actually got STRETCHED to 2 games because of some of the excuses that Prater had been making.
Ferentz pretty much always treats these issues fairly and I don't expect things to be any different.
Going from the Prater precedent, if Binns is honest about everything and doesn't make stupid excuses, then my first impression would that Binns could potentially get off with only a 1-game suspension.
The only "curve-ball" that I could see that could extends things beyond a single game suspension is if Binns gets hit a bit harder because he's slated to be an upperclassman. That could potentially make a REAL difference. However, even in this latter instance, I don't see Binns getting a suspension that is any longer than 2 games.
Mind you, I'm of the opinion that a DUI is a serious offense and I'm not trying to indicate what sort of punishment Binns deserves. However, what I am pointing out is the likely duration of the suspension that Binns will likely have to serve.
