Starting 5

That lineup will be fine during preseason. The B1G will feast up front. Basically Fran will have to have the forwards play toreador defense or they will foul out and give way this lineup

Umm... no Basabe?

Real issue is what happens when Brommer inevitably gets into foul trouble. Archie has struggled in the past overall, and Gabe doesn't seem to be ready yet (esp. on the O end).

Iowa will have no choice but to go small. Either White/Basabe or McCabe/Basabe or McCabe/White.

I think the only toss-up is the 3, but I see Devyn holding off May for the spot.

I think the big O can play. He doesn't have to be a go-to option on the offensive end, he showed some nice basic post moves and can stuff it at will if fed. Just rebound and play good d. Patrol the paint. I think he'll be a surprise this year. We haven't had an athlete like him down low in quite some time.

I saw him play in three PTL games and can't remember many post moves or a single dunk.

Some of you have very short memories. How tall was our starting center last year? I'll give you a hint it starts with a 6' and ends with a 6". White is slightly taller with more basketball skills than Cole. What we lose on one end (defense) will be made up for on the other end (offense).

Brommer and others can come in and give us a bigger body when needed. White could give us a productive 15 to 20 minutes per game. Brommer 10 to 15 and McCabe 5 to 10 and Olaseni could get his feet wet if needed.

Somebody is smokin some serious wackey tobackey if they think Aaron will be starting and / or playing the 5 for the Hawkeyes this year. Cmon folks. The kid without question has serious game, and will indeed probably start at the 3/4 by mid-season, however, I've watched the kid play a couple of years now. He is NOT a center in the BIG. He barely played center in high school! He will rotate between the 3/4 depending on either offesive or defensive matchups. He might even see a little bit of time at the 2, however, that will be minimal at best.

Agree with BasketballMan. No way Brommer doesn't start at the 5 since he is the only guy with experience. Archie is a 2-3 minute per half guy and I think Olaseni will get more PT as the year progresses. He is too athletic to not be able to block a shot, grab a board, tip a pass etc., and that is what McCaffrey wants from him (this year).

I don't think "starting" is going to be a big deal once the team develops a personality. Lots of situational minutes available for guys based on how they are playing, matchups, etc.

Agreed. White at the 5 would be a nightmare. We need to start putting players where they can be successful, even if it means we don't have our best 5 players on the court at the same time.

Not happening. White is a 3/4.

You've convinced me.

It just sucks not having a legit five on the team and a logjam at the two, three and four. We need Woodbury in the worst way.

You nailed it. Iowa very much needs Woodbury.
After this year, Olesani is the only 5 on the team.
Woodbury would have a good chance to start all 4 years.

We don't lack a legit 5, Brommer is all of 6-10 230+. What we lack is any proven depth behind him.
