Stanzi In!

the broadcasters had some great things to say about iowa and coach ferentz.

didn't expect much from rick with very limited practice reps and playing with the third/fourth team. looks like KC is playing the preseason "avoid injury" game. hopefully rick will get some good reps with the first and second team some time this preseason.

No rush for Rick. They will bring him along at a good developmental pace. Does look like he could use a little more strength. Always interesting to see these early preseason games with rookies to see the difference between NFL and college.

Mop up duty...for a team getting blown out...in the first preseason game...after a lockout-shortened camp. Doesn't get much uglier.

BUT...considering that, I thought Ricky looked confident and decisive..when he wasn't running for his life.

What I really loved...was the way the crowd cheered when he came in the game. How cool was that?!

I'm gonna venture to guess that quite a few Hawkeye fans made the trip to this game. I myself knew of a couple groups going. Would have been a good trip actually.

When I heard that, I felt a little like the Grinch when he had his cardiac expansion. :) They should get that clip and the one from just after the game and fold them into some recruiting videos along with current hawkeyes in the NFL stats.

They cheered again when he had to make a run for it and got quite a few yards! Hope he heard it...it was definitely for him! The clip of all three at the end of the game was great too! I hope theres some way a person can get a picture of that!

if you watched the game last night I don't think you would he worried about stanzi being fearless.. he tucked the ball and ran multiple times into NFL linebackers without sliding.

Todd Haley stated before the game that he was treating this like another practice. They didnt throw the ball once with the first teamers. Ill bet the the next game Stanzi will get more reps with 2nd teamers. He was almost getting sacked before the snap got to him, not to mention that snap on 3rd and 6 the rolled back to him.

KC's O-line was horrendous. Turrible, just turrible. Stanzi had literally 1 sec before someone was in his face. I thought he had a pretty good outing for what he had to deal with. I was surprised with 2 things:
1) His mobility - He felt the pressure well & improvised.
2) I thought he had a lot more zip on the ball than in college. He didn't leave much air under the ball which you cannot afford to do in the NFL. Even that pass downfield to the sideline that the WR got laid out was a zippy pass. Glad to see.

He made a couple good decisions to run & slide. Of course, last night he was kind of forced to. There was no pocket to speak of. Everytime I looked up I saw a Buc defender straigtlining right for him. I thought he looked very poised as well & seemed to have good command of the offense directing things. I think he'll be a productive QB in the NFL. He has been compared a lot to Tom Brady, but watching last night he really did resemble him, play-wise as well as his body.

He's been working with a real QB guru in Jim Zorn. They spent a lot of time in his first week of practice working on a quicker release.

Even though he might regress some due to the schedule, I think Zorn is gonna do a lot for Matt Cassel. Can't wait to see what he can do with a guy like Stanzi with all of the tools he possesses. Should be an exciting next few year for Stanzi.

stanzi playing now. He had one good pass earlier, but has not looked to good since. Good learning experience.

He's playing behind a line that consists of 4 UDFA rookies and a converted DE. Looks like a jailbreak most times he drops back. Wasn't able to be quite as elusive as he was last week, but still managed to show poise and keep his eyes down field.

Wound up 6/12 for 58yds. and an INT.

Not as bad as it seems though. He was at one point 5/8 for 50yds. for 0TD and 0INT. Then some of his 3rd string receivers went to the bench. Things started falling apart about the time he started throwing to Jeremy Horne. Not only did Horne drop everything thrown to him(at least 3 off the top of my head) he let one hit him right in the hands and tipped it straight up into the air and into the hands of the awaiting Ravens defender.

Some bad news for Stanzi though is that while he outplayed Cassels backup Tyler Palko last week, the 2nd QB put up some impressive stats in game two.

We'll see what happens in the final two games of the preseason. Rams next week.

agreed. he was trying to throw while being chased most plays. the line wasn't good when he was in there.

Ricky might learn how to react to a blitz.
That's the first thing any QB with a bad OLine learns.

Looks like he's stuck with the hamburger squad.

Keep your chin up Ricky!
