Stanley's take on the game

My take on the game:

Iowa seldom has game changing play makers. This is most evident when the opposing team has quite a few.

Kirk and Brian are poor game time coaches and when panic sets in among the players, they look like they have each been hit about 5 times with a stun gun to the noggin.

This most recent game (or perhaps better named, fiasco) is from a long worn Kirk script. It is who he is as a coach. No need to fight it, best to take the pain, for a bit, then move on.

Iowans like the script for some reason, on many levels (oh sure a few cry out in pain for change) and I so no reason why Kirk can't become the "winning-est coach" in college football history. Plenty of marshmallows out there to play and beat.

Kirk did, refs didn't see/hear him in time, which is understandable considering it was pretty loud at that point.

Youd think they could give coaches a device for calling time outs...

Penn state got some pretty favorable no calls holding wise.

Another thing that bothers me is plays that clearly go out of bonds, occasionally they mistakenly just keep running the clock.

Tough lose after that outstanding start on defense. This team is special when they have a qb doing even an average job.

Refs weren't very good, but they were consistently bad, so I can't really complain about them.

The silver lining is a West division title is still very much in reach. Wiscy is going to get pounded by PSU, mark my words. IF we can take care of Purdue (who had a pretty big letdown today against Sparty), and NW, we're back in the thick of it.

The thing about Stanley that really irks me is that he throws INTs not because he's trying to be overly aggressive and make a play like Tate or Stanzi used to do, but because he's panicking.

That's hardwired. That shit won't change.

Yeah, cuz I can't wait to see what Panic at the OB does against Michigan's D.

Not to absolve him of guilt, but that first INT looked so wonky that I wonder if he and his WR weren't on the same page. There wasn't a whole lot of pressure and he had Fant open on an underneath crossing route. I'm wondering if one or both of them screwed the play up.

What are you talking about? What was wrong with ST today? They blocked a punt and had a few solid returns. The only blemish for them was the big return for PSU, by a pretty solid returner in his own right.
My bad...was referring to SMhalk's view that Iowa has a "special team" was not referring to Iowa's special team play today.

Was it over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Things look bleak right now, but I remember a much worse Iowa offense doing enough to beat a pretty damn good Michigan team pretty recently. Not to mention their OL doesn't hold up to pressure very well.
