Stanley

Nathan Peterman or Beathard would be a better comparison. Gabbert and Allen are both better than Stanley.
Right now? Certainly. I'm talking about their college careers. Hell, Gabbert made the first round off solely off of the OU game and lighting up a depleted Iowa defense, to which he still threw an incredibly dumb interception to give away the game.

King dropped from 1st to what 5th round? Lost a couple of million, pretty certain other players noticed that.
Talked about it in another thread, but King did not drop because he returned. His measurables (40 time, size, length, etc) and how the NFL gets hung up on them is what pushed him out of the first round. Hell, he was still projected as a first rounder right after his senior season ended.

Make no mistake about it, he will be the qb all year next year as well.

Go back to early August 2017. You'll find quotes from the staff that Tyler and Nate were neck and neck. No clear-cut number 1 at the QB position. Then Nate wins the position and TW gets 2 throws all year. Now if you were coach and thought the QBs were close, wouldn't you want to get some game action for both to make sure the starter was undeniably better than the backup? Or if not that, get the backup some snaps so if he has to replace the starter (a la Stanzi 2009) he can come in with some game experience under his belt and have a fighting chance to save the day.

Yeah no. They went high on measurables alone. Look at Josh Allen's career college statistics or Blaine Gabbert's INT numbers.
Umm...YES. They were drafted #7 and #10 respectively. I'll let Nate Stanley's draft position finish my argument for me. I'll come see you on 2020 draft day.

Nate definitely struggles with some throws, especially the deep fly patterns. Will that improve? Hard to say, but, there is NO doubt that he will be our starter next season.

That said, I think we caught a glimpse as to why the coaches don't seem to be as enamored of Fant as much as the fans are.

I watched that first miss on a wide open Fant four times, and what struck me is that the pass was very catchable. It landed about 3 feet just to the left of Fant while he was running full speed. If he had adjusted his route a little towards the seam and slowed down just a hair, it would have been a long TD. Instead, he maintained his exact direction and speed and didn't even attempt to make the necessary adjustment.

Either he was venting his frustrations, or dialing it down to avoid risk of injury heading into the draft, or simply lacking knowledge of route adjustment. Any of those three scenarios would validate concern on the part of the coaches.

Maybe so but he was the hottest secondary player hype wise his junior year, I believe he would have been at worst a 3 Rd round pick.

Yeah, I don't see either Hock or Fant coming back. They are both likely to be picked within the first 3 rounds of the draft.
Fant should be ashamed of his blocking today. It was really bad.

Agree. And Stanley without those two = majorly bad. Like 48% completion bad and even more panicky plays
