It's good money, but it's not first round money, which Hock is definitely capable of. Plus, he might really value his time in college. Desmond King did.

Does anyone still think Stanley is an NFL caliber QB?

If Blaine Gabbert or Josh Allen can be taken in the first round, Stanley can certainly make the NFL.

I think Stanley is a solid quarterback who overall played well today. Whether it translates or not is a different question, but Stanley has nfl caliber talent. I’m not sure honestly if a couple of throws he missed were on him or the receiver for not running the correct route. I remember one where it looked like Stanley expected Fant to run down the hash mark and Fant was a few yards wide of that. Small thing, but it matters.

He’s also on pace to set the school record for passing tds with another comparable year. That’s nothing to sneer at.

Yeah no. They went high on measurables alone. Look at Josh Allen's career college statistics or Blaine Gabbert's INT numbers.

This has been 08 redux. How did these guys lose four games? Wrong QB. The problem is Nate is way better than Jake was, but essentially they have the same limitations. So changing QB is an even tougher choice, and Mansell is likely a bigger if than the Manzi, but it needs to be seriously looked at.

What makes me optimistic is that 08 was followed by a year where the close games were won. What holds me back is I though last season was an 08 redux as well (minus Wisconsin).

I don't think Mansell or Petras are close to being ready. And before people come at me.....no, I am not at practice everyday. Just speculating.

Can't really refute this because if they were they would/should be getting a shot.

All good points but we also dont know if receivers are bending or flattening out their routes like they are supposed to do. Unless you are at practice listening in to the receivers coach you dont know.

Now granted Nate is making some bad throws but he also makes a bunch of really good throws. As you say he needs to get more consistent.

Take away his throwaways and he is about 70% today.

I think he still gets a little rattled or hurried and doesnt see some open receivers.

At the same time our coaches still call the game in a 15 yard box which is dumb, we need to throw it deep more just to loosen them up

I said it a few weeks ago but looking at how Stanley plays he is much more successful playing in more of an uptempo style. Look at the first half vs the second half. Not sure why it is, maybe it helps him get through pre snap reads faster or what but they needed to stay with the tempo style the entire game. I also think his receivers run some lazy routes at times and his touch has been terrible for most of the season.

If Smith can strengthen his routes and start catching more passes with his hands he could really be a force. They always talked about how big his hand size is but he always lets everything get so close to his body when he can come back to the ball and snatch it out of the air instead of it coming to him. Props to him he did make a very nice TD catch today.

I think what is the most frustrating thing about Stanley, is not his number of missed throws.
It's the number of missed throws where the receiver has beaten his man by a step or two... aaaaand Stanley over-throws the receiver by 8-10 feet. Ugh.
How many times have we all said "Damn, that would have been six for sure!"
The worst missed opportunity pass o' the entire year was the one to Hock against PSU after Stanley made a brilliant, textbook, absolutely perfect ball-fake on 4th &1. That overthrow was maddening.
Pretty sure any average 10 yr old boy could have made that pass....and those types of misses are what make us all wonder what 'woulda-coulda been' this season.
That said, great win for the Seniors today...suck it Nebby and while I'm at it suck it Stanford band.

It's amazing. Both times he threw to Smith he was well covered and Stanley dropped a dime in there. But he gets stage fright when trying to make the layup throws.

Yeah, I don't see either Hock or Fant coming back. They are both likely to be picked within the first 3 rounds of the draft.
Fant should be ashamed of his blocking today. It was really bad.

The problem For Stanley isn’t practice it’s pressure moments in games where his mechanics and feet get off and he makes terrible throws. Plan and simple.

He’s a guy who looks great in pads but something happens to his Moxi and it killed this team in a number of games. I hope Petros or Mansell take the job personally but Stanley got a fair shake at it and I didn’t see anything that says it should be his without a competition next year.

Well, here is a constant complaint of Kirk. He puts more emphasis on how a guy performs in practice than in games. Not arguable imo.

I have reminded people in the past but case in point following Pitt game where CJ relieved Rudock at half and won the game.

Kirk's first statement on postgame with Eddie and Dolph. "I am just glad Beathard played better than he practiced this week." Nice Kirk. Stubborn, Insecure Boob.

I am sure Riley Moss looks good in practice and works really hard. And Nate too. Rastetter??

If Hockenson is back, with multiple receivers improving. Stanley dedicates 100% to off-season improvements, next year WILL be special WITH Stanley as Qb.

I know he played much better today and made better decisions with the ball...but damn...he missed some guys again with just horrible passes. I loved the way the announcers started talking about his hand. He was doing this well before he hurt his hand against Penn State. It's got nothing to do with his hand. The miss to Fant on the wheel route was inexcusable...how does a college QB miss that. You have to be able to allow guys to make a play on the ball...he wasn't close in a few of those situations.

He's the difference guys between 8-4 and 11-1. You need a guy at QB who can make plays...in big moments. I was happy to see the completion to Hockenson at the end of game...it was the first time he's delivered with the game on the line, late in the 4th. Congrats Nate...we are rooting for you...but you have to be better next year.

I still hope that the competition is open next year. I'm afraid by not using Peyton in any useful manner means another transfer. Petras becomes # 2 by default.

King dropped from 1st to what 5th round? Lost a couple of million, pretty certain other players noticed that.

Nathan Peterman or Beathard would be a better comparison. Gabbert and Allen are both better than Stanley.
