Stanley is a total choke artist.

Stanley is a bit like Brett Favre (no, not the same) in that he can make great plays and have great games but also gives away almost as he gains in terms of wins and losses. Lots of...We couldn't have won that game without him. or We could have won that game if he wasn't the QB.

Not going to be tolerated. If you can’t rise about this type of sophomoric response, don’t respond. I’m pretty lenient on these boards but don’t push me.

Did you miss the part where he damn near broke his hand on that helmet? He looked significantly better after getting it taped. I agree that there should have been a series or two with a different QB until he got that sorted though.

Probably his best throw all day

Lot of f-ing idiots on here. Most of you probably played some level of sports and I am sure you never had one single bad game. I am just sure.

But this only supports the mentality that maybe he should have been removed. People do have bad games, some have horrible ones, but in the midst of these games I'd be willing to bet many of us were pulled in the best interest of the team.

I gave examples of running backs, wide receivers, d-backs and linemen getting pulled in a previous thread. We see starting pitchers get pulled all the time when they don't have it on a given day. We see pinch hitters regularly as well.

I simply don't see why giving a struggling player the hook has to be a negative thing. It's not giving up on the player its going with a different option that moment. It's not condemning him to a life time on the bench, it's simply saying he's struggling and were going to go with someone else to finish the game.

I know in response to your post that if I was having a bad game, I may have been pissed if taken out, but looking back at it there'd be absolutely no ill will if it was done to benefit the team. There are games where everyone struggles, but there's also moments where making the switch can be just the spark needed. The other advantage in that situation would have been that PSU would have had relatively no film on Mansell whatsoever, and we could have caught them off guard.

Overall Nate has had some good games and some bad games. Saturday's was terrible. But I simply don't see the argument that you can't bench him. No one says he has to sit permanently. Just shut him down for the remainder of the game and bring him back the next week.

RBs cough up the ball...they come out.
WRs can't catch passes...they come out.
DBs blow assignments....next man in.
Repeated false starts on oline...next man in...well maybe not.

I simply don't see why a QB who is struggling to make even the simplest of throws is above coming out of the game. Is he the best QB on our roster? I'm guessing so. But I'll laugh if someone were to tell me that there wasn't a QB on the roster that couldn't have matched his performance on Saturday night. Sit him down. Next man in should get the chance to right the team and give him the reigns next game.
Mansell on his one play had two options, punt or throw deep. What did he do?

JFC the other team is trying and wants to bury the QB.

So honest question if we're going to assess Mansell's performance on his one play, how do you justify giving Stanley the benefit of the doubt. With that logic maybe we should have put Rastetter under center for the remainder of the game, he did have a TD pass on his one attempt.

I've not seen anyone in this thread including myself who started the thread saying Stanley should lose the starting job. He should have been benched in this game to collect himself. BHGP said that after this throw Stanley didn't complete another pass until the final possession of the half. This pass is 3 minutes into the quarter. Clearly he was totally a headcase after this miss.

I agree, but it may have gone back further. I think the intentional grounding call on the opening possession set the tone, but the Hockenson miss really hurt. Think of how differently the game might have played out.

I think this is the turning point psychologically. Stanely was puckering so hard I'm surprised he didn't turn inside out. It got way worse after this miss.

Besides the obvious, which has been pointed out ad nauseum, Id like to point out the unbelievable play action fake Stanley executed. He sucked both safeties in, which is why Hocks was so wide open in the first place. Still tough to swallow considering A) that would have put us up 21-7 and put Pen State on their heels and B) they obviously saw something in the films and may have been waiting years for the perfect time to call it and when it came everything was perfect but the throw.
