25th ranked teams get beat down on the road all the time against top 10 teams. Sucks that it happened but it doesn't change that we are somewhere between the 2nd and 6th best team in the conference.
I agree with you here. I'm actually less upset with a drubbing like that, than having a lead at half, and blowing it. These games will happen in college basketball.
That said, some need to open their eyes with this team and Fran. We have collectively the worst guard play of any B1G team (including Penn. St. and Rutgers). Fran has brought in Marble, Ogs, Gesell, Clemmons, Ingram, Jok, Dickerson and Ellenson to play guard at Iowa. Of those, only 1 is an avg. B1G player or better, and that kid is someone he inherited from Lick in essence.
The thing that is soooooo frustrating by it is here are the near misses by Fran in recruiting at the Guard position: EC Mathews, Chase Randle, Trey Burke, Tyler Ulis, and Reiley LeChance. I think every one of the guards that Fran has brought in beside Gesell has been a fallback recruit. He had other targets that he preferred, but he couldn't get them.

We sure as he** better. Purdue, even on their floor would fall in the bad loss category. And this team has been great at taking care of bidnus when they are supposed to. So hope they shrug this off and get focused to handle Purdue. This team looked TIRED. Saturday was a huge, emotional game. We needed another day to rest.
We'll come back Saturday with more "pop"
Hate to say it, but I'm headed in this direction, too. Hope Fran can do the job, but I don't see him making Iowa nationally relevant. Cm ' on Fran, let's get it going.
Just yesterday ESPN was doing a story about the state of Iowa and how good the basketball is here with the 3 main schools. Now today Fran has completely failed because he lost to a possible championship team. It wasn't long ago that I'd read about a Hawk game the next day and didn't even know or care it was on. The short comings of this team are obvious and most can see what position needs an upgrade. Maybe it's not up to the level that most want yet but Fran has raised the level of "relevance" for this Hawkeye team. Most said going 2-3 over the next 5 games would set them up well for the stretch run. Lets not jump off the wagon just yet.
This is what we are with Fran.
I'm by no means jumping ship, but it absolutely infuriates me see the Hawks play so hard to work themselves back into the polls an then put up an effort like they did last night. Wisconsin is a very good team and played a very good game, but I've never seen us look as lost on defense for an entire 40 minutes, like I did last night. It seriously made me nauseous.
Agreed. We've only really struggled with top 10-15 teams(and UNI).
the collapse from last year still is fresh in Hawk fans minds, so I understand the frustration. A 30 point beating doesn't help.
I still think Fran is a good coach. Need to show we can bounce back next game.
We will see.
Go Hawks.
