I'll one-up you...have spring practice, play your warmup cupcake, and then play your bowl game (as long as you didn't qualify for the playoffs). And as long as we're wanking around, the cool schools that actually care about football will push back their spring breaks until mid-April so they can line up with the bowl game.

Not sure what you would do with the playoff qualifying teams, I will leave that to someone else to figure out.
I like where you head is at, but the bowls need to stay in warm places near the holidays. Remember, Spring ball is the start of the new season so seniors don't play spring ball. I mean, I know you can change that, but I think you end one season at or near January 1st and start the next thereafter.

I love the idea of spring games centered around a later Spring Break. Iowa could play its Spring game in Fort Lauderdale! I would make that trip.

I get that the coaches may not be hip for a game, but we all know that money and TV drive the bus and 1-2 true Spring games would generate appreciable dollars. This sport drifts towards money. This is low hanging fruit money. I bet we see real spring games in the next 5 years.

So many NFL-bound seniors are skipping the bowl anymore, I say just rip it away from the end of the season. Seniors are no longer involved, but now you are getting your freshmen more run (even early enrollees and transfer portal guys). Guys would still get the same # of bowls in their career, but we could get away from the charade that a bowl is some sort of meaningful culmination for a player, and instead treat it like the exhibition that it is. It becomes the "let's get excited about next year!" game instead of the "let's pretend this game somehow impacts the season we just completed even though the regular season ended a month and a half ago and 6 starters on each team are sitting out" game.

Kirk wants the practice time. He doesn't care at all about ticket sales to something like that.

From a purely team standpoint it makes way more sense to have a practice, I just think it's boring.

As a coach you have everything controlled and you get to see the exact situations you want. They also get to see each kicker/punter boot the ball 20-30 times which is huge.

All they need to do is bring back the intra-squad scrimmage. That way they can still set up scenarios that they want but fans can watch something a little closer to a game.
Yup situational play is no joke for us either. It's primarily what wins us games. Situationally knowing how they want to handle things and execute is everything. When you can't just run up the score on teams you gotta be able to know how to win close games. Be it up or down by a possession. Look at Neb under Frost. How many games did they lose by one possession? A shit ton. You could probably point to that stat alone and say if he had flipped that by 20% he'd still be there. That's 90% coaching and just having your guys prepared. When your players are prepared and coached up they play faster and more confidently. It's one of the least talked about things in regards to winning games but it matters.

I get where your head is at, but I can't get there. Determining who plays in what bowl is done by the team that performed in the Fall. Also, I think it would be very weird to take a 3 month break before concluding the season.

IMHO, cap the season with the bowl in warm weather during the holiday break and then turn the calendar and get ready for the next season. I would just favor part of that getting ready to be a real exhibition game or 2 in the Spring. Everyone except a few old codgers coaches like KF would like it. More football of a quality that it can be broadcast/streamed on tv? Count me in.

However, Seniors also enjoy one more game to play for the Hawks with their brothers, see the bowl game as a reward, and parents can have a final college football experience. Those who opt out? So be it. Provides an opportunity for some younger guys to play in a nationally televised game.
