And I did not say anything that contradicts a thing you just stated. I agree with the general sentiment that BF's performance has been beyond reproach. The why he sucks maybe subject to reasonable debate, but the fact of his sucking is not.

I called out a post that suggested that anyone on this board would be better at BF's job than BF. Do you agree? Put another way, if KF came to you and said, "Fry, I have read your good work on HawkeyeNation and I know you think my son is a boob, and to be candid, he probably is. Since you seem to have such a good grasp of things, can you select a poster on your board that seems to have his thoughts together and send me his contact information? I will install him as the new OC and we will get this offense thing figured out. I can probably pay him less and we can get rid of that nepotism thing so Barta will shut the hell up. Thanks, my friend!"

Would you welcome that approach from Coach Ferentz?
In regards to recognizing QB talent recruiting, developing, and having them perform/execute on game days yeah I think my 12 yr old niece could do a better job then BF at it. The dude is shooting zero % at it the last 5 yrs. A blind squirrel can find a nut once in awhile but BF can't find a QB unless Cade falls in his lap.

After seeing Petras for a yr and then 2 yrs why would anyone trot him back out there again? Well Brian did. Because not only could he not develop Petras but he couldn't develop anyone else either. I'm not sure some of us are realizing just how epically bad Petras was. Nice kid and all but dude sucked at playing QB.

As Fry likes to point out, while we all have our opinions, the coaches are the ones seeing these guys every day in practice. KF likes guys with experience and who do not turn the ball over. But, he has also benched starters in favor of younger QBs that demonstrated more talent. Both Beatherd and Stanzi supplanted existing starters. He even tried to do that last year, but it was replacing a round turd with a square shit sandwich operating behind a swiss cheese line. KF maybe a slow to make a change, but I believe that the best QB has usually been on the field during his tenure. When Iowa has hit rough patches its because the entire room sucked, like the last two years.
Seeing them every day in practice also means you know them personally. The only way saying "Ferentz knows better than the fans" holds any water is if every D1 coach would also make the same decision as Kirk. I'm sure there are plenty of coaches out there that are better than Kirk at picking starters who would have played Banks over McCann and Stanzi over JC.

I'd argue Kirk has one of the longest leashes in all of football when it comes to sticking with a qb. He clearly has more info to go off of than the fans do. I'm just not sure he's very good at applying the info he has.

Its awesome that we have so many posters here that are better at coaching certain aspects of football than the guy who will likely retire with the most wins in Big10 history. Having nieces with QB selecting skills is incredible as well! We are blessed.

Don't kid yourself that BF decided who started at QB. That is KF. And, the choices last season were shit or shittier. Again, that is still their fault for not recruiting and developing better, but Brad Banks was not sitting on the bench last season. And, I love it how the coaches get all the blame for bad QB play last year, but no credit for landing McNamara. I am sure the Ferentz's had no role in landing one of the best transfer QBs in the country.

(Dammit I hate that I have become the defenders of the Ferentz's!! What has this board done to me???)

Kirk Ferentz is far from the first good coach to pick favorites and stick with them for too long.
