Smith and ISM are getting much better. But they need some inside targets to keep the coverage honest.
What I wanna see is how Nate Stanley handles his senior year. Is he gonna take control of the game from the onset? Is he gonna be more confident and consistent? He needs to stop throwing bullets on short routes and show some touch on his passes. He needs to identify open targets quicker and hit them in stride. I feel like he is progressing when it comes to feeling pressure coming at him as long as he is able to maintain focus on his receivers downfield. Everything begins and ends on offense with the QB and this team will only go as far as he will take them. If he can also sustain long drives, he will make the defense's job much easier, and put a lot of pressure on the opposing defense. This is what I'm looking for outta Stanley, not just another SR. QB regression again. He needs to lay it all out there on the line this year. Play to WIN!, Not play not to lose.
As far as throwing bullets on short passes we have to also look at the receivers having hands up coming out of the breaks and being ready to catch. Are the receivers really doing this well? Tom Brady throws it fairly fast to short route receivers. I think where Nate puts the ball is as or more important. His accuracy on the shorter throws can improve as we have seen many receivers catch balls that are not that accurate. I hope Nate can find the combination of speed and accuracy. If he takes speed off he has to lead the receiver more which is harder.
I saw Nate from the stands last year not even see or throw to receivers who are open by 10-20 yards yet throw it to a what seems to be a more predetermined receiver who is closely covered. I hope he is looking at the tapes if he can get better at reading defenses and knowing which receivers should be open.
I think we have seen that Nate is a tough, strong competitor and he did take the hawks on many good drives last year. Against Nebby and in the bowl game, against PU and Penn St he had a lot of good long drives.
He needs to eliminate the WTF decisions like late in the first half PI at Minny and the mixup type thing at Penn St.
If he doesnt regress but just improves a big on his completion percentage I think the hawks avg scoring goes up some.
I am sure there is a read sequence he goes through based on what the defense shows at the line pre-snap. If he gets a read that is open enough, he would throw and maybe not see a WR that was the next read on a different part of the field. That would be my explanation for most of those. And I am sure that KOK is telling him if a guy is deemed open enough then throw the ball.

Totally agree with you. Look for the best matchup or what should be open. If it is open make the pass and the completion to move the chains and put pressure on the defense.
Some of the big open receivers I saw him miss last year were the running backs coming out of the backfield, the RBs were probably not a main read but Nate would hold the ball and not look at or see them and they were wide open (sometimes 10-20 yards downfield) for big gains. He needs to hit those to make teams pay for doubling other receivers or blitzing.
Sure, but the next step is having the knowledge/experience to be able to tell pre-snap based upon alignment/keys that the normal read progression should be scrapped because this dude who is #3 in the progression is going to be open for a big play. That is where Brady is at (players speak of it in revered tones), and that is rarefied air. Stanley won't get there consistently in college, but if he can spot a few of those and have the gumption to go for it, big boost overall for the offense.
I think it's more to do with Sargent and Young just playing better last year. The former especially turned it on down the stretch. Is IKM in Kirk's doghouse because of all the fumbles? He went from lead dog at the beginning of last season to doghouse.
My hope is that Nate Stanley doesn't suffer a senior let down. We've seen it at Iowa, a QB looks great or pretty good for a year and then his senior year he takes a step back.

He’s fast but I just don’t think his vision is very good. I think he had a good camp last year and the coaches wanted him to be the guy because of his speed but it didn’t really pan out, plus he was injured a good deal. The injuries set him back but even when healthy he just didn’t seem to have the vision or patience IMO.Is IKM in Kirk's doghouse because of all the fumbles? I’m thinking Goodson could take his spot as the big play and receiving back guy. We shall seeI also think the coaches are still willing to give him a chance to shine. Kirk stated that he still wants to get a 3-man rotation going at RB, and IKM looks to be that 3rd guy.
I thought IKM was still on the mend from an injury.
