Spencer Petras enters transfer portal

How does that even work? He redshirted, and ultimately was a 5th year senior last year, right?

Is it that he hit the pause button this year, so it doesn't count as his 6th year for the Covid year, and he instead can take his 6th year next season (which is really like a 7th year)?

Wow, definitely out of L field. I remember seeing him after the game giving hugs to Hill and to coach Brian F. He's been a contributor to this team thru his ordeal as well.

He must have gotten the bug being around the guys and during the games. I don't blame him if his health is much better.

Shocking as I thought he was done.

He must have been conversing with Settles or Bohannon.

Seriously, I think it is a Covid year. Was he medically redshirted?

So, how much of the blame for '21 & '22's stinky offense do you put on SP and how much is on BF after watching 10 games in '23?

I think you can blame SP for some, but the OL was so bad last year it wouldn't have mattered who was back there. I don't think BF is as much of a factor and doesn't deserve all the heat he's been getting. Ultimately, the OC is running the offense within the boundaries that KF sets.

I'm not sure he's taking classes this fall, TBH. I've heard he isn't. If that's the case, he's not redshirting this season.

I never doubted his sincerity and effort. Upon reflection, the number of errant passes and lack of the ability to escape a rush limited his success. With Brian gone and McNamara coming back there is little reason to hang around Iowa City. I hope he can find a spot.

I hope Spencer lands at a good place at whatever level. One more year of college football is a gift for any player. He is a very fine and courageous young man. We may be surprised at his offers. Good luck, Spencer!

I'll be really curious who takes him on... I mean I assume since he's doing it he wants to start and play. Sure lots of programs will take him on to be a 2nd or 3rd stringer. But if he's wanting to start.....

Spencer Petras is one of my top 10 all time favorite Hawkeyes (a list which spans at least 50 names so don't ask me for the list). I didn't realize just how bad it was until I drove 10 fucking hours to watch that offense put up 6 god damned points in Champaign last season and upon seeing just how dismal that line was and just how bad everyone out running routes other than LaPorta was I immediately realized that Spencer could be Patrick Mahomes and it wouldn't have made one damned bit of difference. The kid's attitude was absolutely exemplary. I would hire him in a heartbeat if I ever saw his resume.
