Spanier letter to the board

I don't know who to believe? I'm getting to the point where it appears that this is a Paterno issue only. It is possible Spanier was not fully aware.

So he was oblivious to the emails on the thumb drive, interesting..

What's the old line, "none proclaim their innocence as loudly as the guilty."

Yep yep yep, it's all the fault of that psu general counsel b!tch. ALL her fault, no doubt about it. Spanier be innocent! Set my Spanier free!!:eek::mad:

"In reporting to the Trustees, I was guided by and followed all instructions from the University's General Counsel. She told me very little about how she was handling the Grand Jury investigation. She never told me anything about the content of the interviews with athletic
department staff or the Curley and Schultz Grand Jury testimony or the interview of Curley and Schultz by the Attorney General when she was present. She did tell me on at least three occasions, however, that this was the third or fourth Grand Jury on this matter, that there appeared to be no issue for the University, and that the Attorney General did not seem to have any evidence to suggest that something happened involving Penn State. She had, she said, spoken several times to Attorney General staff. I was never told by her of any materials being
subpoenaed from the University, or even that I had been subpoenaed to testify. She told me I was going voluntarily, as I had previously agreed to do, and she accompanied me before the judge and in the Grand Jury room and sat through my testimony. I had no preparation or understanding of the context. As I was being sworn in for my Grand Jury appearance, much to my surprise she handed over to the judge a thumb drive containing my entire history of emails back to 2004."

Lol, did not read. Fell asleep.

Allow me to summarize, my somnambulant friend:
"I didn't do anything wrong! Not my fault!!"

It's one tiny step above what the concentration camp guards were saying during the Nuremburg Trials.

what does it matter if he admits he was wrong....his image is toast, regardless

While I hardly think he's as innocent as he proclaims if any of the "dirty 4" are somewhat clean I would believe that he's the cleanest. It's very possible that Curley, Paterno, and that VP would not want to give him the full story, either out of self preservation or to protect him given his position at the university.

Because he likely could still be charged in relation to the cover-up. He's proactively trying to exculpate himself.
Curley and Schultz are facing charges, but somehow, Spanier has skated.
So far.

I dunno, the Fed investigation makes it possible they kept him somewhat in the dark. The Feds are actually pretty good at what they do, unlike Barney an Andy on the local force.
So I guess there could possibly be some truth to his protestations.

It doesn't matter for him, his reputation is done. Newspapers guaranty this.

i agree with stanzi...the guy is obviously not innocent but he was probably the least guilty (if there are degrees of guilt) of all 4.

"What did the president know, and when did he know it?"

Ring a bell?

Poor Spanier, he's been misunderstood. Looks like he's the real victim.

"Whar Billso?" Billso is back. He wasn't banhammer. What did Bilso know, and when did Billso know it?

Poor Spanier, he's been misunderstood. Looks like he's the real victim.

On a more serious note. There are plenty of victims in this mess. Obviously the victims and their families, but there are plenty of other people made to suffer for the selfish acts of a few "educated" men.

It isn't clear about Spanier, but he did pass a federal security clearance, so maybe they threw him under the bus too. It almost sounds like it by the attorney's actions.

Spanier hasn't been charged because he didn't perjure himself in grand jury, and even the Freeh report criticizes him more by inference than for actual actions or inactions. Based on current info I can't see him being charged, though public opinion and civil litigation are another matter.

Put yourself in his shoes reading those 2 emails. They were expressly designed NOT to encourage his further interest. Shultz and Curley and (we now know) Paterno were truly despicable.

As for the GC, if half of what Spanier says is true, it sounds badly mishandled. Maybe she took tips from Iowa's former GC.

Oh, thank GAWD! bildo has finally arrived to spread the real truth among all of us ignorant hayseeds.
The Gospel According to Bildo shall now commence.
