Soundoff - John Lickliter Spoof

It was funny. I don't see why people get so bent over it. The kid plays D1 basketball, on a big stage and he is out there to be celebrated or in some cases lampooned. I'm sure JL could give a fart about this spoof, and is he has any sense of humor he probably finds it humorous himself.

If you thought this was mean then you must have also thought Fales spoofing a Cornhusker fan was mean? Or how about when he was Lucca Staiger?? It is done for humor and ratings. I actually look forward to these pieces because it is original.

Maybe you should write a letter to the MSU, Indiana and Michigan student bodies as well. Personally, what they were chanting were far more offending (and inappropriate to use on this board) than what is portrayed over a local sports show!

By playing D-I college athletics comes the responsibility of being in the public eye and the criticism that comes with it.
Just cause you think it is funny I don't think this is the place to post crap like that. Has anyone that dislikes John put themselves in his shoes? I'm sure you guys would love people cracking jokes about you even though you have put in time and effort just like any other player. Pretty sad that cracking jokes about a Hawkeye player is so darn funny, if his last name wasn't Lickliter he would be a good kid that we all would be proud of.

I'm sorry, but that video is hilarious. I laughed so hard when I watch it. Chris Hassel is hilarious. My favorite video is when he plays gary, eddie, and hayden when Iowa played UNI. I've never laughed so hard as I did that night watching that. I wish they still had it on their website or on youtube because I'd like to see that again.

i'm with you. I saw this last night and thought it was quite mean, and not funny. Chris Hassel has a bit making fun of Gary Dolphin that I think is in poor taste as well.

Maybe instead of giving the top 10 clown shots to the nads, some one should kick him in the nads.

Dolph has been in the business long enough to know when he's getting spoofed on. Making fun of an 18 year old kid because he's the coaches kid is just a bit out of bounds.

I didn't think that was funny at all, and I normally find Hassels stuff hilarious.

I think this crossed a line but it wasn't nearly as painful as watching Purdue players laughing at him during a freaking game.

I hate seeing my Hawks get so much friendly fire. We are in a bad spot partially due to Tucker not keeping his nose clean. Little Lick wouldn't be seeing any court time if Tucker were still available. The fact remains that Tucker is likely out for the remainder of the season, big Lick will get another shot at things next year, and lord willing the Hawkeyes begin showing some signs of life.

Calling out a young man who is simply doing his best to be the "next man in" is not something I would not be proud of no matter how you label it or spin it. Do I feel Lickliter should be playing this season, No, but I have the utmost respect for his hustle and attitude much the same way I did earlier this fall when our football team had several young men step up and play the role of "next man in" at O-Line, Running Back, Cornerback, Strong Safety, etc.

Before you base your replies on the difference in talent, recruiting, depth, etc. please ask yourself if you would have the fortitude to step in to a no-win situation where the only thing you typically get from hours of sweating your tail off is several thousand fans taunting you and some clown outwardly mocking you.

If you want to bash on the Coach that is your right but I ask you to separate your frustrations with him, his system, his player substitutions, his defensive schemes, his out of bounds plays, his demeanor on the bench, his player relationships, etc. from the players themselves and continue to encourage the young men that have remained Iowa Hawkeyes to finish the season strong beginning again with Illinois this Wed.

Hassel is a friend of mine and in order for him to "channel Gary Dolphin" or whomever, he must first get their permission. So it's not like they don't know. He isn't making fun of Gary Dolphin, he is just exaggerating the already known. I find it rather humorous because it is so over the top if you truly take it serious, then you have no sense of humor. And when the basketball team is this bad, humor is a great escape. This video just proves how embarrassing things are with attendance.

If Lick has a problem with this then maybe he should start doing something about it...like keeping his team together and WINNING!!!

You are right, I have no sense of humor, and since you are a personal friend, you are the man.

So did he call John and Coach to get their permission as well?

And how about the 10 shots to the stones for the clownz? He took that one back and apologized because he thought it wasn't up to his standards of comedic genius....right....

some things are funny, and some things are not. making fun of John Lickliter is not.

The dolphin bit just isn't that funny.

How long has it been since Iowa has had a more effective backup PG than Lick? You could maybe make a case for Jeff Peterson during Freeman's last year here, although Lick has a higher 3P%, much better A/T ratio, and has played almost all his minutes in conference play. Lick is a better PG than Jermain Davis and Dan Bohall, and has handled the point better than Tucker has.

And just how long has it been since Iowa has had a more effective walk-on than Lick at any position? Maybe 2003-04 with Kurt Spurgeon?

I get it, Lick's short and he's the coach's son... but let's come up with some new material. Yakov Smirnoff was funny for a while, but one joke can only take you so far.

This is unneccessary and mean-spirited and indicates weakness of character on the part of Hassel, his producers, and the TV station as a whole. We get it--everyone is frustrated with the performance of the basketball team. That is no reason to try to embarrass a young kid, regardless of who his father is. Discretion is the better part of valor.

theres one guy whos responsible for the product Iowa puts on the floor every night-Todd Lickliter.

I wouldnt call his kid a scrub in public but the reality is his Dad has put him in a tough spot.

It is funny but sad at the same time..."thousands of empty of seats..."

I bet Barta is not laughing nor is big lick...

I thought this was a good spoof. If the state of Iowa basetball was not in such bad shape, WHO would not be making comic bits like this ... Iowa earned it ... It's a nice subtle way to point out what everyone already knows ... Iowa basketball is in bad, bad shape ...

It shows why WHO sports is not watched in this market and projects itself as borish high school bullies. It will never lead the market with that kind of programming.

Fine, take a shot at the coach, the empty arena, the staff, Barta for letting it get to this point, even the fans who seem to have given up. But don't pin this sad state of affairs on a 20-year-old kid, regardless of whose son he is.

Not deserved.

I can't believe a fan of the Hawkeyes would allow the pawn to take the blame for a terrible coached team.

I would say burt bridges are not easily fixed.
