Soooo....Anti-Ferentz crowd

Yes after losing 5 straight by an average of 18 points.

In the same time frame Wiscy is 11-8 and probably will be 12-8. But as we know, we dont compare to Wiscy, that program is way better.

But your right, 9-9 is fantastic. Keep on keepin on you lovers of mediocrity. Nothing better than being a 500 team.

*you're*

Iowa is a .500 team in bowls, yes, not a .500 team. Wisky is a team that Iowa needs to beat, and Wisky is better than Iowa. Wisky is unfortunately an outlier and is better than most any team for this type of comparison.

Cherry picking data is for haters that have to search for an argument at this point. Iowa had an excellent year. Deal with it, hater.

Over the last five years

Huge Wins
2017 Ohio State (12-2)
2015 Wisconsin (10-3)
2018 Mississippi State (8-5)
2016 Michigan (10-3)
2019 Southern Cal (8-5)

Wins against very good teams.
2015 Northwestern (10-3)
2017 Iowa State (8-5)
2019 Minnesota (10--2) so far
2015 Pittsburgh (8-5)
2016 Minnesota (9-4)
2016 Nebraska (9-4)
2017 Boston College (7-6)
2018 Iowa State (8-5)

Do you think a win over the over the 6th or 7th best team in the SEC is a huge win?

I kinda do, that MSU defense was legit. They held Alabama to 24 points, their lowest total until the NC game, unfortunately their offense couldn't do anything. Playing a 7th place SEC team is probably the equivalent to playing a 2nd or 3rd place ACC team.

LSU was one of those teams that was significantly better than their record.
LSU's record was 8-4 losing to Alabama, LSU, Florida and Kentucky. Their defense was one of the best in the country. (The only knock against their defense was they tended to be a bit over aggressive and vulnerable to plays getting behind them.)

LSU's offense generally ranked around 32 or so, if you go by either FEI or S&P+. Their offense dominated most lesser teams, their wins all being by two touchdowns or more. They won 5 of their last 7 regular season games, failing to do much against either Alabama or LSU.

The teams that scored the most on LSU were Kentucky 28, Iowa 27, Alabama 24, LSU 19, Florida, 13, Texas A&M 13. The rest were ten points or less.

YES! 9-9! Sounds like KFs career in a nutshell. Gotta love the ass kissers!

Nick Saban is 14-10 in bowl games in his career (3-5 before going to Alabama).
Bo Schembechler was 5-12 in bowl games in his career.
Woody Hayes was 5-6 in bowl games in his career.
Hayden Fry, as many on here know, was 7-9-1 in bowl games in his career.
Bear Bryant was 15-12-2 in bowl games in his career.
Barry Alvarez, the only Big 10 coach to win back to back Rose Bowls, was 9-4 in bowl games in his career.
Pat Fitzgerald is 4-5 in bowl games in his career.

Are you getting a pattern here? It's REALLY tough to win bowl games. A 9-9 record in bowl games is not something to sneeze at.

You do realize iowa was favored in this game....correct? Helton has been under fire at USC all year and they haven’t been relevant in years. Quit acting like this was a win over a real USC team because it wasn’t. A great performance indeed but just like the South Carolina win, the BC win and S Carolina, not wins over top shelf teams. And thinking recruiting ground is going to open all of a sudden or that ferentz is even interested in that then you simply haven’t been paying attention

Yes, Iowa was favored... by less than a field goal. And USC had some players just returning from injuries who were now healthy so it was actually down to Iowa by 1.5 points.

A lot of the issues with Helton are due to the injuries I just mentioned. USC didn't play up to their "potential" because of the injuries. Remember that the starting freshman QB was starting because of the two previous QBs went down with injuries. He simply played so well that the former 1 and 2 QBs couldn't beat him out.

And maybe not the 5 star guys, but it could open up a new awareness for potential Iowa recruits in the area. Seeing that offensive outburst and how solid our defense was on national TV could definitely turn some recruits' heads that wouldn't have even had a single thought about Iowa.

Bo Schembechler was the head scratcher. His 12 bowl losses represented 25% of his career losses at Michigan.

The fact that Woody Hayes coached in only eleven bowl games shows how tough it was to get into one in the fifties, sixties, and much of the seventies. If you couldn't beat Evy at Iowa or Duffy Daughtery at MSU or Bo at Michigan you stayed home that year.

Up until the late 70's, if you didn't make the Rose Bowl in the B1G, you didn't go to a bowl game. Without looking it up, I suspect a lot of Bo Schembechler's losses were in the Rose Bowl, where the B1G did not fare well in those days.

Kirk is 9-8 in bowl games, NOT 9-9

I'm on record as saying Kirk is fine as long as Iowa finishes in the top 25 every year and wins 9 games a year while we play the cupcake OOC schedule.

I'm not ok with everything he does. The nepotism put a bad taste in my mouth. The tendency to turtle with a lead in the 4th quarter. The short side stretch.

Next year, new QB and probably losing several generational talents in Stone, Stanley, Jackson, Wirfs, and Epenesa. Guard play still not up to snuff, and two new tackles. Tough schedule, too. I think 7 - 5 isn't out of the question.

Iowa plays an in-state rival (who allegedly is pretty good right now) usually a MAC team and then one crap team. Hardly different than ANY OTHER PROGRAM. Stop with the cupcake schedule crap. I am all for dropping Iowa State and adding the likes of Alabama every year but that ain't gonna happen. Fry played a powerhouse program or two with his OOC schedules, but at that time, ISU was among worst programs in college football and the Big 10 as a league, sucked. OSU, Michigan and that's it.

I read this from an OSU fan about what they think about our program. If it doesn't show that we have a great system in place with great coaches and players, I don't know what does.

"I honestly hate you with true respect and nothing more or nothing less. I left a comment elsewhere but Iowa is fucking cfb. Iowa is the crown example of the difference between CFB and the nfl and why I love cfb sooooo much more than pro. The amount of 2 and 3 star kids that you assholes put into the nfl Is both impressive and annoying. Kinnick is death. You bastards are awesome and I’m so glad you’re in the B1G"

Not quite up there with the Gettysburg Address in terms of eloquence but so well put.
