Sonnen vs. Olaseni (Stormin' vs. Herby)

I gotta disagree with you on this one. I think Olaseni will see some action, especially against teams like Indiana with 7 foot Zeller. We may see him more than we want if Woodbury keeps getting into foul trouble.

I never said Fran was never going to go deeper than 9. Certain games and situations will require minutes from Gabe. More times than not though, he will not be in the rotation for the B1G schedule.

In UNI's previous game at George Mason, Sonnen was 7-10 from 3 point range to lead UNI in scoring with 21 points. He is a large part of UNI's success. While Gabe contributed to this victory, I feel Sonnen's absence from the lineup was a larger factor.

May and Gesell played tough defense on the Lad also, Woody......

stormin implied that Sonnen was the biggest factor in Iowa going from a 2 point lead to a tem point lead when he went out with foul trouble. that's complete BS
Gabe came in and Iowa pushed the lead up to 10.
Sonnen is not this great player that would have led UNI to a victory, not saying Olaseni would have either but Gabe plays a bigger role than people care to admit and Gabe is 2nd on the team in Blocked shots at 1.2 bpg behind Basabe at 1.5 bpg
and with his production in the last 3 games he has played in. he has played 38 minutes for a 12.6 mpg
18 points for 6 ppg , 14 rebounds 4.66 rpg 7 blocks for a 2.33 bpg and 0 TO'S in the last 3 games
this is not garbage minutes nor garbage stats, UNI simply went with a shorter lineup and Fran just matched them up in the 2nd half

I wasn't going to weigh in, but the potshot from herby sucked me in.

The bottom line is Devyn Marble won the game for Iowa, with help from Mike Gesell. Those two were clearly the Players of the Game for Iowa.

herby, you were the one that brought up Gabe being the reason Iowa stretched their lead. Now while I think Gabe did a decent job at times (occasionally he looked out of place, esp on the offensive side of the ball), there were other factors why UNI allowed Iowa to creep ahead. Sonnen picked up his 2nd foul with the score Iowa 19, UNI 17. (Mind you, Gabe had already been in the game before this happened and the gap actually closed in his first possession in the game.) The game was close early on due to the fact that UNI had caused several Iowa turnovers (backcourt pressure that Sonnen was involved in). In the 3 minutes and 33 seconds after Sonnen went to the bench w/ 2 fouls, Iowa outscored UNI 12-3. 6 of those 12 points were via two treys from Devyn Marble (someone who was being guarded previously by... anyone? anyone? Marc Sonnen). UNI is a team that averages a hefty 8.4 3 pt FGs per game. Anyone care to guess who makes the majority of UNI's 3 pt FGs (and this by a wide margin) - yup, Marc Sonnen. He had made 25 of the team's 76 treys on the year (almost 1/3 by my math in the head skills) before this game. So UNI lost their senior guard when it was a 2 pt game. Their best 3 pt shooter. One of their best on-ball defenders. In just over 200 game time seconds of his absence, that lead was up to 11 pts.

Here's the thing. It's ok to admit that you are wrong. It's not a sign of weakness. Trust me, I know from experience.

Spank with teh pwnage.

When I first read herby's original comment, I took it as a shot at the people who say Gabe will never be more then a garbage time player. It was more of a "Gabe obviously held is own since we increased our lead" then a "Gabe was the reason we extended the lead". Not sure if I agree, but I understand the logic. God help me I just said I understood Herby's logic.

Come on spank, you and I have both been around this forum long enough to know this will never happen. You can prove to herby beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is wrong and he will never, ever, admit he is wrong. He will wait until something happens that favors his point, even something minuscule, and he will come back on here blasting all of us with it. It happens over, over, and over people like that cannot accept they are ever wrong in anything.

Some times I wonder by the way he lashes out at people if he does not have "real life" issues.

I am not wrong, Gabe came in the team did not lose the lead, the team increased the lead. Gabe does not hurt this team when he plays and is not a garbage only player that comes in when the game is well in hand.
coming in with just as 2 point lead proves that, and that is what bugs a lot of you and escpecially spank!

I don't WANT to call you a moron. I really don't.

puhleez, redhawk has more basketball knowledge than all of us put together.

herby, again, when will be starting your own blog? They are not very expensive, I am sure a few of us would be willing to chip in.

Ok, everyone knows you think if Gabe does well it proves some point that you saw something in Gabe, that nobody else did......

Gabe played well on Saturday and like the other players that made it into the game they were ALL integral to the win.

Sorry to say, Gabe wasn't "the difference maker". If he was, please explain why Gabe was pulled from the game after getting absolutely scorched by Tuttle on a great spin move and up and under layin and the foul. Gabe was instantly pull, and that score brought the game to within 4 pts at 55 to 59 with 8:02 to play.

Nobody is bashing Gabe by saying he played a great game, but he wasn't the difference maker....that is only in your mind. Hopefully Gabe can keep contributing key minutes throughout the Big10 season, as it will make this team that much better.

will have to have one of the kids start it for me.
alot feel that Gabe won't a solid contributor til his SR year, he is proving most were wrong

What do you feel a solid contributor is? And please keep it to 3 pages or less. TIA.

If you think it is by being:

10th in minutes
10th in scoring
13th in assists
T-7th in rebounds

and your best stat

2nd in blocks

=

solid contributor? Then yes, you have won your argument. Congratulations.

I did a quick check:

herbyhawks.com or .net are available and pretty much anything BlackTarn is good to go. Redhawk is limited, although you can grab redhawk.me easily. Lock down your favorite domain, they are only $2.95.

Are you sure the lead was 2 points when Gabe checked in? Might want to think about that statement again.
I'll give you a chance to double-check your facts. Because I'm nice like that. I really am a nice guy, I think.

On a side note - why are trying to make people dislike Gabe? He's a tremendous person, a hard worker, and an asset to the Iowa program. With the way you go about things, you only bring out negative reactions towards Gabe. I would ask that you stop that, as well. We don't need that sort of stuff on here. That's called pot-stirring and trolling.
