Someone started FireKirkFerentz.org

Agreed. It would be a pretty sad state of affairs if there were no differing opinions on this.

Whatever your view is, it at least shows that everyone cares.

Agreed. Coaches are fair game. I don't agree with the extreme views of some posters, but the coaches are people you could take aim at. But there's been plenty of potshots taken at players, too. And THAT is over the line.

I care, but to call for the firing of Ferentz is completely idiotic. That's what I'm having issues with. Questioning things and wanting improvement is warranted, but some of the other stuff is just mind boggling. That's what chaps my arse........and the money argument has no merit, not one person on this board or any other would turn that down or give it some back if in the same circumstance.

If the guy wanted to start a site to crab about how much he is disappoint in the coaching staff, he could do it on message boards. But putting up a site with Fire Kirk Ferentz as it's domain name means you want him fired. If not, there were a ton of other options to register it under, like DoBetterFerentz.com or ImMadAtKirk.com.... but that site is about firing Kirk Ferentz.

FireKirkFerentz.org

Who cares? You lend more credibility to it my mentioning it here.

It's already been mentioned. This guy has some knowledge of college football and is just trying to make a buck hoping someone *cough* the university will buy it. Happens all the time.

It might simply be an investment on his behalf. I know I would start a Firebriankelly.com if I could pay 50 bucks for it and sell it to some rich disgruntled ND alum.

IIRC a guy owned kellyedwards.com and sold it to the John Kelly campaign for 50k

don't know, just depends on the site and how much people are willing to pay i think- i'm sure it varies wildly. not that it's any comparison and i'm no expert in this by any means... but my company had to buy three last week to protect our brand. i believe the university did this a few years back as well with some similar sites already- just to own them so that they CAN'T be built out.

On the ".com" thing, two questions... 1) why didn't they also buy the .org version, and 2) why don't they have the address send you to no where, or better yet, send you to some porn site that you get fired from work for visiting? That would teach people.

1) Most people only think of .com for "commercial" sites and not ".org" which is generally reserved for nonprofit organizations. My guess is the guy saw .com was locked up and decided to try for .org. For their part, the university -- which bought the *.com site -- probably thought they only needed to deal with the .com.

The Wizard of Odds: Iowa Purchases FireKirkFerentz.com

2) My guess is that Big Brother -- in this case, the UofI -- wants you to know they're watching and will control what you see if you deal in such tomfoolery. But funny suggestion to send viewers to a restricted site. ;)

Thats OK, I am sure KF can live through it. The question is whether his ego is bigger than his brain. Regardless of how old you are, it helps to know when you have to make changes to compete.

Ask Tom Osborne what he did before he won 3 national titles. Had to change recruiting to get speed and athletes instead of pure strength.

The problem is that people in Iowa's coaching lineage believe that once you are there you have one of those lifetime contracts....that's a recipe for mediocrity and there are plenty of examples of that. The fear of losing and being fired and under currents for motivated players and coaching staffs. I know that if I don't perform I'll be gone from my place of employment. I get one bad year because the next year I'm going to MAKE ADJUSTMENTS (a novel approach that the football coaching staff should implement in game prep) and if it doesn't work the next year I'm gone....and I should expect that.
