Anyone who had Iowa to cover had to be sweating bullets for a while last night.
I could never pull the trigger to bet big on any sporting event. It looks too easy.
I am enough of a nervous wreck during Hawkeye games anyway. Add to that putting huge amounts of money on the line and I would probably have to be committed.
I was last in Vegas in 2009. I can remember hanging out in the sports book area on the morning of the Michigan State vs Louisville regional final. Many had Louisville favored to win it all. You could get 15-1 odds that morning on Sparty to cut the nets.
It was as close as I ever came to pulling the trigger with a huge bet. It wouldn't have mattered. North Carolina won it all in the end anyway. On a side note, by the next morning Michigan State's odds had dropped to 6-1.
I lost enough money at dog tracks and playing blackjack back in the day. But I did meet my wife in the casinos. She worked in the casino industry from 1990-1999.
$100 would probably be my limit. There's a reason bookies exist.
