Some Stanley love ......

Playing 3 years to Long's 4+, Stanley had zero chance at that record. As in, none.

He was only 1500 yards behind him. Thats 500 more yards a year. He threw for 2432 with a 55.8%completion rate as a soph. Then 2852 with a 59.3 % as a Jr. Then 2951 with a 59.4% as a Sr.

Jump those completion rates to 65 to 68% and he may have got him. Would have been close.

First, well done Nate well done son. I am truly happy with how your career ended one of the all time great beat downs second only to Chuck Long's beating of Texas in the Freedom Bowl. <golf clap & tip of the cap>. While his panic stricken play when he miss reads a defense like grounding, INTs, etc. Watching tonight some things seem clear. Nate still has his weaknesses and those didn't all the sudden get resolved BUT it's very apparent that Kirk's gameplan in some of these conference games is MADDENING. KF clearly has a preconceived bias how he think's he's beating certain teams MIchigan, Wisconsin, Michigan State etc. With no room for error like the Michigan game 4 TO's and 3 Total Points he just doesn't know what to do playing from behind and you'd think he's been around long enough he would have some thought.

It would have been a different year for Stanley had Fant and Hockenson stayed for their senior year. There's 10-15 TDs (?)

To end up 10-3 after losing two great players to the NFL is beyond expectations. My prediction was around 8-4 with a 6-6 season being likely. It was November before Iowa had the hint of another TE stepping up. And then it was against Nebraska before Iowa had a 100 yard rusher.

Stanley did good with what he had. But there always seemed to be potential left on the field.

Hock would have only been a junior this year (RS jr). Next year, in theory, we could have lined up:

QB - Petras
RB - Goodson
WR - ISM
WR - Smith
WR - Tracy/Ragaini
TE - Hockenson
OT - A. Jackson
OT - Wirfs
OC - Linderbaum
OG - Banwart/Schott/Britt/Ince/Kallenberger/Miller/Endres/Fenske/Dejong/Elsbury (there are 5 guys in that list who I believe were 4* from at least 1 recruiting service)
