Iowa is fourth in the Big Ten in 3 point% at 36%

Iowa is fifth in the Big Ten in FT% at 73%

Iowa is second in the Big Ten in FG% at 47%

Iowa is third in the Big Ten in opponent's FG% at 40.5%

Iowa is third in Big Ten opponents 3FG% at 30.5%

In regards to the 3 PT FG... I think a more telling stat is we are 10th in 3-Point FG made with an average of 5.8 per game.
We have made 168 total.

My point being it doesn't matter how high a percentage you shoot, if you don't shoot them.

Appling missed a wide open 3 that would have iced a game that we ended up losing anyway. Xavier missed a couple shots at the end of our game with them. Purdue couldn't buy a basket late. Other than that I think teams shoot 100% against us in the last 5 minutes.

So for every 100 2 point attempt we average 94 points and for every 100 3 point attempts we average 108 points. The 3 point shot is such a huge part of the game and using it as little as we do probably hurts us more than it helps us.

I know people like to use the quote " you live by the 3 you die by the 3. This saying doesn't make any sense unless you think that a team that shoots a lot of 3's would quit losing games if they would quit shooting so many. I guess the saying that applies to Iowa is "you live by the 2 and die by the 2".

If I remember right most of us were worried about this more than anything this year. It's a huge improvement. Shoot this percentage last year and we're likely in the NCAA. Shoot last year's percentage this year and we're likely in the NIT.

Very Interesting. Wonder how much our Defensive %s have dropped the last few games

Iowa FG defense in the last 3 games is 54.7 %. That mark is 313th in the nation during that span.

This season Iowa's D efficiency is at .947 points per possession (37th in the nation). Last year it was .908

In the last 3 games that number is 1.138, which actually improved a little from the horrible 3 game stretch of Wisconsin, Minnesota, & Indiana. That mark puts them at 311th in the nation during that span.

Basically, the last 4 game stretch, Iowa is playing some of the worst defense in the nation.

I'm not sure about your last sentence. Have we won any close games this year where we shot a good percentage? I think last year's team would be in for sure though.

What the hell happened? Did the ceiling falling screw us up that bad? Nothing else changed other than schedule and routine. O guess Basabe getting sick maybe? Or Twitter?

I'm fairly certain we have won games that would have been close (possible losses) if we hadn't shot a good percentage. Haven't they shown the stat that we're undefeated (maybe 1 loss) when we make at least 5 threes?

The % is an improvement.

I would bet that we made just as many 3s last year but we shot a lot more too. We're still not a good 3 point shooting team no matter what the % says.

I have a theory...only a theory mind you. We played 1 game in 15 days and then faced a hot Wisconsin team. Every bounce went their way. It was a tough loss...and ended any chance at the regular season championship. I think we let up once the championship was off the table and we thought the road was getting easier.

I think we'll lose tomorrow night. I think we'll beat Illinois. I think we'll look much more like the team everyone was talking about a couple weeks ago when the BTT and NCAA get rolling...just my thinking.

Yea but again that proves quantity not quality. I'm not saying it for sure hasn't won us any close games. I'm just saying that we have won so few close games that its definitely possible that the better percentage didn't actually help us win any more games this year.

That's a pretty good theory. That and defense is 50% how good you're playing and 50% how good the other team is shooting. We ran into a few teams that were red hot. We could have done better to slow them down but when the other team is shooting that good there isn't a lot you can do.

I also think we will see the old team come tournament time. It will be like starting a new season. All their goals will be back on the table.

Thanks Xerxes, OK some you great BB minds. why is this happening ? We were in a position to make a run at the B 10 title. So much of Defense is effert and communication I don't get it

Playing one time in two weeks definitely hurt Iowa. Basabe being sick at the same time even hurt them worse. Iowa really hasn't had much luck this year, but they have a lot of young players in the most important positions. Hopefully, the ball will bounce their way in the NCAA tournament. If the beam didn't all in Indiana, I think Iowa could of easily won a couple of more games. If Iowa would of won the Wisconsin game, they would of been ahead of them in the conference standings.
