Solutions for 18-19 that won’t happen

I hate that Hawk bball again will not be NCAA bound again. Hate that we aren’t competitive in the B1G and are pathetic.

Remember my times as a kid in the locker room at the Fieldhouse with Lester, Arnold in awe.
Remember 80’s teams at Carver when it rocked.

Things that should change that won’t for success next year:

2-3 players need to be moved on...you can choose. We need 2 athletic multi skilled guards that can play both ends. We also need to add a linebacker. Grad transfers. FM hates transfers, so it won’t happen.

I also believe two assistants should be canned. Bring in one D specialist and have FM give up those reigns. The other, a slime ball recruiter that knows how to get playas.
It’s a deer in the headlights look from the bench now. All the productivity from a couple assistants is cute philosophical tweeting.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Not a fan of running guys off............but it looks like the only other option. That or some serious player development between now and November.

I was looking at Fran's first team here at Iowa. JR Gatens, JR Cartwright, SO Eric May and FR Devyn marble would all start or get significant minutes on this year's team. The team that was so devoid of talent that posters refuse to count it against Fran's coaching record, has several players that we would kill to get into our current line up. Based purely on athleticism. I'd take Cartwright, Gatens and May at the 1,2 and 3 spots right now! We'd cut our ppg allowed in half. And people actually argue that this current team isn't as bad as a Lickliter team?

Fran received an extension, he will not make any changes. No pressure to.

I was in agreement with the PG being the problem position, now it appears that the 2 and 3 spots are a huge problem. Wieskamp will help.

But they wouldn't be a problem if we had a true point or two. And sorry but Connor ain't the answer. He was just as bad offensively and defensively as anybody on the team. We need a true BIG point guard or we'll see the same crap next year.

Bohannon playing the 1 is about 10 times better than Moss playing the 2. Honestly, if we could get a really good 1 and move Bohannon to the 2, or get an equally good 2 and leave Bohannon at the 1, it wouldn't matter much either way. The way we improve the team quickest is eliminate Moss's (or any other 2 guard on the team) minutes.

While typing this post, Moss just shot 2 more jump shots with his foot on the 3 point line.

Fran will feel the pressure, fans here will make sure of that and it will get worse if the team continues playing this way into next year, big buyout or not.

You just blew my mind. you're exactly right. Hell even basabe would have a place somewhere on this years team.

We don’t need a mass exodus of running guys off. Ideally Brady grad transfers and we could grab a transfer to immediately help us in the backcourt. But let’s be honest that probably won’t happen. Most college basketball teams have scholarship guys that don’t get minutes, unfortunately Fran thinks he needs to play them all.

The real thing here is we need to shorten the rotation. That’s up to Fran, but we also know that probably won’t happen.

I truly believe if you played:

JBo, Moss, Baer, Weiskamp, and Dailey all the minutes at the 1 through 3 spots, and Cook, Garza, Nunge, and some Pemsl at the 4 & 5, we could have a bubble type team next year. Play through Cook and Garza in the post and focus on defense and limiting turnovers. The problem is as we know Fran’s going to try and play Connor, Kriener, and Wagner as well. None of these guys can get in any rythm as a player when they play 8-15 minutes a night and have zero clue what their role is.

Quite frankly I don’t see much changing next year, because I see no reason to believe Fran will change the way he coaches.

I have to believe that Kriener is giving a lot of thought to his basketball/life future. With everything that is known about concussions and the fact that he has had 2 so far this season. As a father it would concern me if he was my son.

I would play Connor without knowing a thing about him over Moss. Or Fredrick for that matter. One of two things needs to happen to not suck next year. Moss has to improve a TON, or he has to hardly see the floor. We have no chance to win if one of those two things doesn't happen next year.

That is some horrible luck to get 2 in the same season. The odds of ever getting another is probably pretty good. But it's so scary I don't know if I could take that chance.

That’s fair. My opinion of Moss isn’t as low as others. I think Fran ruins his rythm In many games. But the point remains. Pick your top 8/9 guys and stick with them.

I just think his basketball IQ is so low that he has no chance to ever be a good player. His dribble around a screen pull up jumper to beat the shot clock with his foot on the 3 point line was just ridiculous. I bet there isn't another D1 guard in the nation that would ever have a foot on the line in that situation. There was no excuse for it. And he does it all the time.

Guys you evidently didn't listen to Jon when he said to expect no better than 8th or 9th place in the B10 for basketball.

That’s a fair point. I’m still not convinced he knows how to use a screen to get open, and he’s in his third year of D1 basketball. I don’t think basketball IQ is something that improves much over the summer so that’s not good.
