So you want to write blogs on HawkeyeNation.com?

Ok...let's try this one again :)

I haven't been able to get this traction in the past due to how hands on it has been with the way I have gone about it, but I have wanted to do it. Now that I have finally gotten the Hawkeye Buzz rss feed live on the newly designed home page and linked here, it has given me the thought that I can finally make this 'fan offering' aspect come to life.

Take a look at this blog page:

http://www.hawkeyenation.com/forum/blogs/big10fan/214-concussions-sports.html

It's a blog offering from the user big10fan on concussions in sports. If you look to the left of the body of the blog, you will see an option to pull in an rss feed in of this particular user's blog feed.

Given that we have the RSS aggregator in place for newspapers and other sports sites, it won't be a problem to create a 'Fan Blogs' page using the same principle.

What I would need is for those who think they want to give blogging about the Hawks, Big Ten or related topics, I would need for you to right mouse click on that RSS feed in your blog page, and email it to me.

You don't have to write every day, or every week. But if you email me the rss feed code from your blog page (each registered user to this site has the capability of creating their own blog and even customizing it to some degree), I would be able to add it to our own 'blog roll' and whenever you did write something, it would automatically go to the 'Fan Blog' page that pulls in all of the blogs.

If you find that you really like some bloggers, you can 'subscribe' to their blogs and be alerted via email or PM when they have written something new.

I am not ready to launch this yet, but if you are interested, send an email to me at jdmiller71@gmail.com with this (exactly and exclusively) in the subject line of your email:

HAWK BLOGS

and in the body of the email, I would need you to paste in the code of your RSS feed..then before the season kicks off, I can make this page go live, and we'll have a 'Fan Blog' option in the header on every page of this site. I will also redirect the url www.hawkfanblogs.com to this page as well, for an easy reminder, just as I am going to redirect www.hawkeyebuzz.com to our Hawkeye Buzz rss page (yes, I am a url addict).

Some select offerings may make their way to the front page as well...and who knows, as we keep growing and consider adding some additional staffers, this could prove to be good 'audition' material. No promises on that, but I think it could be fun and I know there are a lot of people that enjoy writing and writing about the Hawks, and this could prove to be a good outlet.

I am wanting to get a head start on this before football gets here and I get buried in that and we run out of time to make the tweaks necessary to do this, but I think this avenue can be accomplished and would serve as a good starting point for getting fans really involved in the process if they choose to be.
