Just got curious about this stat, somkething this team might haea shot at with BM loking tall wings shooting 3s.

The all-time %% leaders for making 3s:

1. 39.7% JBo
2. 36.7% Jeff Horner
3. 36.4% Adam Haluska
4. 35.7% Payton Sandfort
5. 35.0% Chris Kingsbury

We got anybody that can crack this list?

Kingsbury had Caitlin range

Saw him play at Drake one time and he was launching them just inside half court

Believe he nailed 8 threes

Jbo was really fun to watch

He received a lot of online criticism on the Hawkeye sites

Completely undeserved

It's all Good

I read in a hawkcentral article today that Hausen's career 3-point shooting % is 39.1% based on two years at Villanova and last year at K-State. That doesn't count for this stat but if he can match or exceed that in his one year in Iowa Cit, it will be a good thing!

OK, thoughts on which of the following team members might have a shot at shooting 35% or higher:

Payton McCollum
Tavioin Banks
Kael Combs
Cooper Koch
Jokic (Jirak)
Tate Sage
Trey Thompson
Isaia Howard
Bennett Stirtz
Alvaro Folgueras

Some others may make it but there are too many unknowns with the rest of the list, IMO. I hope several more can make the jump.

Here are some of the stats I foound:

Bennett Stirtz - 39.5% 3 pt % last year at Drake
Cooper Koch - 42.9% in very limited action
Alvaro Folgueras - 41.3% last year at Robert Morris, 36.3% overall for his two years there
Isaia Howard - 31.1% last year at Drake
Kael Combs - 20.0% last year at Drake, 26.7% overall including year at Wyoming
Tavion Banks - 9.1% last year at Drake, over 50% overall FG %
Brendan Hausen - 39.1% reported above

I'm surprised this thread hasn't generated more comment, I think the stats are pretty telling.

First, I'm surprised there are only 5 former Hawks that shot 35% or above for their careers.

What it tells me is that if this year's group can shoot 35% or higher we should be in good shape. Our top 3 transfers shot at the high end of this last year. If they can do it again, we should be in good shape. Even if B1G defenses ratchet down the %s and they still shoot 35% or above we should be good. I expect all 3 to be solid.

I think a real key to this season is the % our wings will be able to shoot. 1-2 of them might emerge but if they could collectively shoot at 35% or above, we will be in great shape. I'm talking Koch, Thompson, Sage and Banks in this group.

If some of the others step up even better.

Like football, I'm ready for game action. Go Hawks

How the guys who shoot a lot of 3s at a high volume for 35% plus will be the deciding factors on how well team does. I suspect Stirtz, Hausen and Folgueras will shoot the most. The rest being threats from out there allowing for the floor to be spaced will only open everything else up for Stirtz and the offense to operate. The trick is getting high % looks and I think that's what Bens O is all about.

What % of the teams points will be from 3s this yr? I did a quick look back of some of Drakes games last yr and they were all over the place. They had games where they only made 4-5 and shot a terrible % and some games where they made 12 plus 3s at a great clip. They were winning games either way. So it's nice to know a bad shooting night from outside won't automatically equal an L for a Ben coached team.

I think I am already prepared for Ben's deliberate pace

The transfers from Drake certainly have his style drilled into themselves

The Valley of Death plays solid basketball and the Bulldogs excelled last season

Ben and his team didn't like to lose and played a very good second round game in The Dance

He has recruited Very Well and I do anticipate a very good year

Might be playing the platoon system and there are the Lads to do this very well

All conjecture but I am Pumped for the season to begin

GO HAWKS
