So Would Iowa be better off in Big 12?

Clearly not going to happen but if it was an option??
Big 12 doesn't get the national exposure and won't receive the revenue that Big Ten teams enjoy. It's a secondary conference with mostly secondary level teams that to a large degree have no natural rivalry with each other. On the other side it is a conference where you can recruit second level talent and compete for championships and maybe even an invite to the playoffs
The Big Ten is a more respected conference that will get more national attention. But the other side of the new Big Ten along with NIL makes it almost impossible for Iowa to ever challenge for championships. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn Sate, USC have enormous resources to build teams that are just head and shoulders above anything Iowa can put together

The days of recruiting, developing and coaching are giving away to buying championships! Michigan is offering $5,000,000 to flip the QB committed to LSU. Hard to compete with that

Still wouldn't want to be in Big 12

That’s like divorcing a hot brain surgeon and marrying Whoopi Goldberg. Why would you choose to downgrade if you don’t have to?!
Just because your wife works around successful guys that work in her field should you just throw in the towel and give up since you are a plumber? Just make sure your good at what you do, be really good at laying pipe.
We’ve always been behind the good teams nothing has changed they’ve just added more. Maybe Iowa should just get rid of the football program when Kirk retires, F it we’re doomed!
That move would make absolutely no sense to me at all.

This situation is all part of the winnowing process that is overtaking major college sports. It has been obvious, at least to me, that the broadcasters have about 24 to 32 teams in mind for a super league for football. It is pretty easy to figure out those with the potential to be part of the NFL's minor league system.

In the case of the state of Iowa there is some inherit disadvantages along with a few advantageous. The obvious disadvantage is a small state population to support two FCS teams and one FBS team. Iowa does benefit from being a member of the Big Ten and not far from Chicago, St Louis, and Indianapolis. It does have demonstrated fan support. On the other hand it is the 4th smallest university in the Big Ten. More alumni equals more money.

I believe the future will be determined by these universities realigning after the chosen few become members of the super conference. These schools could form an interesting conference: Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. There would also be a possibility of adding teams like Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State since they are not likely to be included in the super league.

Anyway Iowa should just hang in there until it becomes clear that the present Big Ten Conference doesn't want or need Iowa or any of the others mentioned.

I think Iowa would be better in the Big XII as painful as it is to say. We are one of the have nots now. And that’s ok. I’d like to see a tiered system like English soccer. Moving up or down based on performance

I think the Big 12 has done a good job of surviving and their future is bright. They will continue to make changes for the better. But I don't feel the Big 12 is for us.

We have got to get our NIL act together ASAP. We have got to upgrade our talent. Last night wasn't the first game this year where we seemed outmatched in the talent department, almost boys trying to compete against men, so to speak.

People on the boards keep talking about college sports morphing into the have and have nots. I can see us being in that have not category and then who knows what happens.

I'm not so sure the future is all that bright. Yes, they have a couple of pretty competitive teams this year. But I don't see anyone in that league challenging for a national championship in football. And, the accumulation of years of having less money will hamstring their programs at some point.

I may be the outlier here, but damn we're starting to sound like ISU fans. While the results aren't what we wanted two of the losses came by a combined 4 points. I'm not going to say that I'm not disappointed in the current record, but to question whether we'd be better off in the Big 12? Are you kidding? We laugh at that conference, and I'll be honest I'd rather struggle or be a middle of the road team in one of the best conferences in the county then dominate and finish toward the top of a bad conference. It's not something I ever have, nor would ever even consider.

Iowa is best off being in one of the only 2 conferences in college football that actually matters.
This^^^

This thread is dumber than those ones where someone asks if the best college football team could beat the worst NFL team. Not only is the answer no, it's such a resounding, obvious no that it shouldn't even be wasted time on.

I completely agree. Iowa is definitely one of the "haves" in terms of money and national exposure. We're disappointed with how things went this year, but we were on multiple nationally televised games. We get lots of cash.

I get it, Iowa State has had a good year, but over time, it is indeed better to be one of the two conferences that actually matter.

The Big Ten will get four teams in the 12 team playoff this year.

If Iowa is in the Big Twelve with ISU and others, our slim advantage disappears, IMHO.

Hey this was a hypothetical not intended to be a serious consideration. Of course Iowa will never be in the Big 12. I suppose its possible Iowa State might be in the same conference as Iowa if they move to create 2 super conferences and then add some teams to the Big Ten SEC ??? who knows what will happen anymore but at least this got a little action on the board.

We have a number of Iowa State trolls that ooze into this Board. Right now the top two threads are this incredibly silly topic of leaving the best conference in the country for a second tier league, and the second is celebrating ISU's latest loss.

I can see the thread now back on the ISU Board: "The guys on the Iowa board are left to talk about our games and now they are discussing whether they need to move out of the Big 10 because its too tough."

So, I take back my statement above. I don't like this thread being here.
