So this was the worst season in Iowa history yet...

they finished 9th in the Big Ten ahead of Indiana and Penn State (I had them pegged to finish 8th).

With that in mind, what does that say about those two programs? I realize Penn State has never been a BB powerhouse, but Indiana continues to make no progress. Yes, they lost Roth and Creek but Iowa lost Tucker and had Fuller/Gatens/Cully hurt during long stretches of the year.

I'm not trying to deflect attention away from the problems we have, but it just interesting to me that Iowa finishes up with arguably the worst season ever, yet they finished ahead of two teams.

Indiana could have the worst Big Ten team of all time

How we finished ahead of Penn State i will never understand. They have a competitive team, not sure why it took them 13 losses to figure it out.

Indiana was in worse shape than Iowa when Crean took over TWO years ago - a year later than Lick - and have much better talent/recruiting base than Lickliter and his staff. I'm not surprised Indiana is worse considering what Crean had to work with but yet they still fill their gym. I'd say Indiana will rebuild quicker than Iowa.

You take Fuller and Gatens out of Iowa's lineup and they are worst then Indiana. I would garner that Indiana will be up and coming next year...my gut tells me that.

Nice try. This kind of talk or whatever you call it doesn't take away from the fact that Iowa has gotten worse as the season has gone on. So please elaborate on what the Heck you talking about. Is it to make us feel good? Quite honestly I don't see the point.

Indiana I would argue isn't making progress on the court but they are on the recruiting trails.

Penn State is better than Iowa right now and quite honestly it's not even close. Guess you must have missed the MSU game tonight at E. Lansing no less.

I honestly would rather Iowa start and finish the year like Penn State has it would make me feel better about the future. If Iowa played Penn State right now they would probably beat us by 15 to 20 points.

What amazes me is the fact that people still look for positives in this season. The guys are trapped in this and if they are D1 players they deep down are probably begging for no one to come to the games. That way maybe the real fans can bail them out and get change. I can only imagine what the players think when they are alone. Well I should say a few players. There are some that wouldn't see the court for another top 50 team but we got em here.

I look at PSU like Iowa in 2001...floundered in the Big Ten season, but figured it out late, and I would not bet against them beating Purdue this weekend and making a run in the BTT.

IU? They are one year past NCAA probation...no shock that they are bad, especially losing Creek and Roth. I think Creek was the best frosh in the league, and one of the top 2-3 frosh in the country alongside the ky crew, who he scored 31 pts against.

Are we better than we thought? No. IU and PSU were worse.

The Hawks didn't play at PSU. They have played much better the last couple of weeks.

If the Hawks played them now, then we would be behind 36-18 at halftime, lose by 15 and end up with the same number of Big10 wins.

What is says is this might be the worst big 10 conf. as a whole in years and we still set an all time worst for losses. Yet another reason lickliter needs to be shown the door. If this were most year we may not have won a single conf. game.

so if Iowa filled their gym still it would be OK..........what does filling gyms have to do with states of programs, it's OK that Indiana is terrible as long as their gym is full? I don't see Indiana being any better in Crean's 3rd year than Iowa is/was.....so what goes that say about Indiana and Crean, yet they somehow are further along than Iowa?

Fuller I will give you as I think he missed games, but how many games did Gatens and Cully miss compared to Roth and Creek?

Take Gatens and Cully out for multiple games or for the year and Iowa finishes dead last and not 9th.

One positive...Iowa plays better at home and is able to beat teams equal or worse than them. In some cases they have had the luxury of facing teams with major injuries, which they have capitalized on. In a few cases they have even played upper division teams close although the outcome of the games was never in doubt. But that is better than getting blown out. Whether playing better at home translates into MORE victories next year remains to be seen. Same players, same offense, same defense, same coaches...same league and mostly the same teams. They probably can defeat the teams they did this year at home but CAN they defeat the upper division teams at home?

Iowa is no better than they were at the beginning of the year on the road and may be worse. They are absolutely terrible on the road. Next year...I don't see this team being any better on the road, maybe the games will be closer but they aren't going to win any more games than they did this year.

Some point to the fact that Tucker was out. I'm not sure Tucker was ever a factor in Iowa BB. He never played enough games to know whether he really ever factored in. He never played ANY Big 10 games in his career, he did not like playing defense or he just was not very good at it and that was evident watching him and he definitely liked shooting. He led the team in scoring but he should have considering how much he shot. Iowa was a better team WITHOUT Tucker, so to say Iowa missed Tucker is playing with words.

I don't see Iowa being much better next year than this year, perhaps a few more wins. If I were the AD, I would be putting pressure on Lickliter but I'm not and Barta won't.

Here is the funny part...Lickliter has all the pieces he needs or tells us that he needs...EXPERIENCE. They are all there...senior, juniors, sophomores...everyone of those guys has a TON of experience, including Big 10 experience. NO one but NO one can say these guys are young anymore. They have all been in Lickliter's system, some for 2 and 3 years now. What more does this guy need to be successful? He even has depth on the bench now. What kind of excuses will this guy use next year if he doesn't get into the NCAA and some of you fans? Lickliter has EVERYTHING that he needs or so he has been telling us.

He has been telling us that he doesn't NEED the 5* players, that he can coach average players up, that ALL he needs is to keep players around and teach them his "system." Well, the players are here...and now it is time for Iowa to start winning and getting into the upper division of the big 10.
