so not recruiting an actual point guard this year?

You said Iowa would finish in the top half of the BIG ..

I said Iowa would finish in the top half of the Big 10 this year. Still believe they will. Have faith girls. Iowa is going to improve. Led by Pete Buckets & JBo.

Bohannon needs a good nickname.

Go Hawks!

Ha isn't that twice now?

I think so. I don't get it.

The only thing I have ever said was lets not bash these 18-19 year old kids until they at least have a shot to play in some games......No worries though, as lightning kind of reminds me of the older guy who has totally lost his marbles. He stand out in his yard with his robe wide open and his tidy whities showing, ranting and raving, and going berserk. The truth is dude is basically just senile and harmless.....LOL still makes me giggle he diagnosed Garza as having flat feet watching on Jr. film highlight tape....hahaha.

MG's stats were bloated with assists against the cupcakes...please don't bring up the rare anecdotal exceptions.

When MG and Sapp played against the top teams, Iowa was most often rendered helpless...with MG often dribbling into the lane vs 2-3 players. Or Sapp reluctantly trying to shoot from outside.

This year...Bohannon appears to be the only option for minutes at PG...and I think Fran has told him to let it fly from three...his strength.

Jok is going to played tighter and tighter...because he has to this point not proven that he can get by someone off the dribble...this will put more pressure on the rest of the team to score.

Williams just seems to be a tweener...with limitations at PG, etc. He falls into that 7-8 guy, coming off the bench to fill in where needed in different positions...but to put him at PG and think he will produce is unfair...not that type of player.

Bohannon has some upside...he can shoot, loves to shoot, is competitive, and will put some pressure on other teams with that shooting ability. Someone will have to identify him as a shooter...no one had to do that vs MG or Sapp last year...they were sag off them guards.

PG is weak...which does not bode well...but IMHO...I think Bohannon will settle down and end up doing pretty well...I like his competitive attitude...we will see...

We must have played a lot of cupcakes last year then for him to get over 200 assists. He had 5 double digit assist games last year and 3 of them were in conference play

But really that's actually accurate.

It's accurate to say to say he can't do it because he hasn't yet? He had never had a top out of state recruit before Cook. It would have been stupid to say he can't land one wouldn't it have? He had never gotten us to the NCAA Tournament 3 years ago. It would have been stupid to say he can't do it. He never had an All American until last year. It would have been stupid to say he can't do it. Pretty much it's always stupid to say someone can't do something just because they haven't yet.

At this point the sample size is pretty good that Fran has trouble getting a top PG. Now all the competition is telling recruits that his son is going to run the point for the next four years and that hurts. So we end up with another shooting guard playing the point instead of a true point for four more years. Just not enough quickness there to guard most B1G PGs.

France had trouble recruiting top players at any position when he doesn't have an in. Now that he landed Cook, Garza, and Nunge, it seems like that pattern has ended. You're right that his son being here might hurt tho.

You might be correct but JBo is going to be playing the point a lot and I think we got a good one.

The interesting thing to me is I watched both Pemsl and Connor play in the finals in Des Moines this past year to get a look at them in person. I came away unimpressed with both. Then Pemsl shows up on campus and looks pretty dang solid with a nice touch around the basket and is a very good passer with good instincts. He's not a high flyer like we know but he's pretty good for a freshman. He has some limitations but who doesn't? Never saw him going for 18 against an ACC opponent after what I saw last year.

So I am thinking it might be best to just wait and see Connor play some at Iowa before passing sweeping judgement because the high school game is so different. The quality of players around a player in college is so different that it can accentuate the player's strengths and highlight weaknesses. I did not factor in the amount of attention defensively some of these guys drew with in high school with doubles & even triples plus zone defenses that are much more effective with fewer great three point shooters.

two years in a row without a true PG? One year is kinda understandable if you have a stud coming in next season but two years in a row? Does Fran just not give a crap about recruiting PGs?

Get it through your heads. Bohannon is a true PG and will be for the next 3 seasons. I guess I don't get what people see to make them think he isn't a true PG. He is a freshman PG in the Big Ten, please forgive him if he happens to have a couple of off nights. Having a PG start for four years is a YUUUUUGE key to having a team make a run in the NCAA tournament. No, he's not recruiting a "true" PG...they already have one for the next four years....
