So...Maybe We Aren't Back...But Lets Stay Excited

MSU's front court isn't all that explosive other than Payne. They have more quick guards, smaller wing players. Indiana executes pretty well, but not crazy athletic besides maybe Olidipo (Hulls, Waterford, Verdel Jones are all just average athletes). Illinois plays small-ball too much to blow teams out. They love to grind and play in the 1/2 court for some reason.

I don't think any team has the length and explosiveness from top to bottom that OSU has. It really is impressive.

I agree that extremely athletic teams will give this team problem.

Indiana and msu are both at osu's level. and illinois has more talent than us

I don't think Indiana or MSU are on OSU's level. They are the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the conference but they are not as good as Ohio State in my opinion.

Illinois is really not that good in my mind. There is nothing about Illinois that I fear. We will likely not beat them as it's on the road (and I never meant to imply that we'll beat many Big Ten teams, just that I think we can) but they really aren't that good. They've barely beaten Illinois State, St. Bonnaventure, Cornell, and Nebraska at home.

Regardless, I think saying what I said is laughable is a bit of hyperbole.

I'm not down at all. There is no way I expected us to start 2-2 in B1G.
We aren't back. But if I shade my eyes and squint real hard into the distance, i think I can see us on the horizon heading this way fast!

Definitely no reason to get all upset over a loss that would have been much better had we shot the ball even decent. I'm still excited for every game. Go Hawks!

After the Campbell and Clemson games I though for sure we were looking at 1-2 wins in the Big 10 at most and while that is still possible, it's not likely.

If you watch Illinois play lately, you would see that they are very beatable by anyone in the conference.

If Iowa goes on a losing skid, the fans will disappear as quickly as they came...

Pretty sad.

We ARE back, just back down to Earth.

OSU is a VERY good team and played like it today. I didn't expect Iowa to win but I thought they'd make it much more competitive than a 30 point home loss, especially coming off back to back road wins in conference play. If anything I'd have thought that if they were going to get blown out by 30 that it'd have been against Minnesota a la Wiscy upset hangover.

Still pumped about where the program looks to be headed. I realistically think we can pull out 6 more conference wins, doubling our number of conference wins from last year, that would at least be a step in the right direction.

We can beat every non-OSU team in this conference. OSU is just so much better than everyone in the Big Ten.
Think we struggle with MSU as this team has issues guarding a big, active, post man and Green is that. IU will be tough as well.

Today was awesome. I don't see how anyone can be disappointed by today. Did you really think we were going to beat O$U?

We played our game the first half in a packed house and boy was that a fun environment. We didn't even get the chance to really let loose as fans and I was getting giddy at the thought of it.

Depth is a huge problem for us at this point. O$U's bench is probably just as good if not better than our starters, but definitely more athletic. The one thing I did notice as along with other B1G teams is how out of shape they are. It looked like all of O$U's starters were completely gassed about halfway through the second period. It's a good thing they were up by 20 or so at that point.

Fran has the program on the fast track back towards relevancy. I just hope to see the fan support back up there and I really think we'll be back to the dance next year, if not two years from now. We just need the athletes not only from the starters, but on the bench.

Go Hawks!

We don't have a single guy who would get more than garbage time minutes on OSU. The fact that most of us believed we could be competitive today is a great sign. We are definitely moving in the right direction. There's still a huge talent gap between us and OSU, there is no longer a huge talent gap between us and the middle of the pack B10 teams. This is a big step forward for the program, we need to just continue to improve this season and then big time help is on the way next year.

I understand what you are saying here, but that is not really a point that should matter. Hear me out on this.
Fran has a vision of where the program is going, yes Iowa needs more talent, but they really need players to fill roles. When players understand their role above and beyond anything, gap in talent can become non-existient. This explains how some mid-majors have made the Final Four lately, they haven't won a NC, but they have gotten there.
Putting guys in the right position and those players believing in what they are doing can be an equalizer.

Butler had two NBA guys on their team. Jamie Skeen was better than anyone who has played at Iowa since Haluska and Tyler and Smith. They made the final four because they had talent. We can be the best coached team in the country but we aren't going to compete with OSU until we have more talent. But that's on the way next year and hopefully will continue in the years to come.

Don't miss my point here, upsets happen in the tournament all the time and I am not saying Iowa is going to the Final Four anytime soon.

To campare though: Who did George Mason have that was heads and shoulders above all Iowa players?

My point is that Fran is recruiting players that are simply going to fit what he wants to do and Iowa is lacking some star power, but that is on the way as well as filling the holes that are still on the roster. Lose one Senior and add five Freshman...I like that tradeoff, especially is the lower rated guys really develop.
The gap between Iowa and OSU is still significant, but the gap between Iowa and the middle of the BIG is narrowing.
