So does anyone want to talk about

I disagree. I think Purdue is better than most realize. They were a lucky bounce away from beating the B1G regular season champions just a few days ago. Their center AJ Hammons is an absolute beast and was the best player on the floor for several minutes yesterday. Their guards are lightning quick and can drive and score - even against the zone. If they clean up their turnovers and play better defense they will make some noise next year. I was impressed with Purdue's effort and attitude on the road right after a heartbreaking loss.

Yeah, LOL at people saying Purdue is no good. Hammons and Hummel are monsters.

my head is in the sand because I don't think the Hawks have issues with close games? They don't, they've won plenty. I actually think it's a fact that IOWA isn't the better team in most cases, and hence they lose. Tends to happen when you're NOT better than the other team more times then not. Iowa is the 4th or 5th best team in the conference and has a whole season of proof to show it.

They are who we thought they were before this season began! :) Don't you think when it became a possibility for them to win the BT, the players, the fans and most likely the coaches found themselves in unfamiliar territory. I think they should have a good week, finish strong and gain that mojo for the BTT and the Big Dance. My hope is when we get to the tourney, Fran turns them loose and not be the NOOSE.

I'm pretty certain you just called me stupid.

I didn't. I said most know Purdue's talent level unless they are dumb and think Purdue is Chicago State or something.

Basically, the assumption that you have some kind of knowledge that others don't possess ("Purdue is better than most realize") is incorrect and a little presumtuous.

Most people who are awake and paying attention durring the games would disagree with your opinion.

Well, they are idiots then, cause besides Indiana and MN last week, I'm not sure Iowa has lost to a team they were better then and only beat a small handful of teams that were better than them. Just because our fanbase and some media types have an over inflated view of our program doesn't mean that it's true... in fact, the last 2 seasons show that maybe they aren't as good as every one else thinks, yet some people think they should be. Maybe they are exactly what they are. Good not great, with a high ceiling. Works for me, not sure why it doesn't for so many others.

I get the above ramble is kinda rambling... so i guess what i mean is

Nova>Hawks
ISU>Hawks
Wisconsin>Hawks
Michigan>Hawks
Michigan State>Hawks
TOSU>Hawks or in this case a push, but in the same league.

we lost on the road to two teams Iowa was probably better than in MN and IN, it happens even to the great teams. But for the most part, we've lost to teams better than Iowa. Hawks tend to lose to teams that are better at basketball and beat teams they are better than, it's not rocket science. The "what could have been" crowd can eat one cause, what could have been didn't happen, so NO, it couldn't have been or it would have. I realize I am making little to no sense anymore.

Well, they did beat the Clones at home by almost 30.

And Iowa lost to that same Clone team. So....I'm just confused are you pumping yourself up? Or trying to teach me some kind of lesson? Are you saying Purdue is better than ISU? Just not following.

Some people may want to keep this in mind. A good troll uses the best weapon, it doesn't matter what color uniform that weapon wears and it might not be the same uniform the troll is wearing.

It shows a lot of insecurity when the first thought is "Clown troll".

I don't see the evidence that states that Iowa State is better than Iowa. I can accept the others but Iowa State and Iowa would probably be a push like Ohio State would be.

And actually, it's kind hard to accept that teams that lost at home to teams like Northwestern, Illinois and Nebraska are really better than us. I don't know, I see us as even with a lot of the teams who beat us. I'm still going with we either have bad luck or choke a lot and not that we are losing close games because we're playing teams that are better than us.

And my post is pretty much pure stream of consciousness so it probably will read horribly and be kind of confusing.

Iowa has lost in conference to Mich, fOSU, Minny, Indiana, MSU & Wisky (twice).
Iowa has also beat in conference Mich, fOSU & Minny - unfortunately we only played IU once or we would have likely won that game too. We play MSU Thursday and it's not going to shock anyone if we win that game.

We lose to Wisky @ Wisky by 4 points in a game that was arguably decided by the refs and a couple bs calls down the stretch. It didn't help that Fran got T'd up either.

We lose to Wisky at home by 5 points following nearly 2 weeks of downtime. It didn't help that Basabe was sick and effectively didn't play and that McCabe likes to shoot 15 foot jumpers from 20 feet away. It also didn't help that Ronnie Harmon reincarnated decided to dribble...well you get it.

The point that I'm making is that Iowa is one bad bounce away in every game from winning. Our luck index is off the chart and only comparable to Wile E Coyotes right now.

The staff appears to finally have realized that certain players should be relegated to support minutes and that Olaseni and Woody need to combine for 40 or > combined minutes per game. Basabe is health again, Gesell was allowed to play the final minutes of a close game, Oglewinkel is hitting his 3s, Uthoff is getting quality minutes, and the rotation of players has been whittled down to 8 players.

Blaming bad luck is fun and to some extent Iowa has had some bad luck. I can think of some examples of **** luck my main issue with blaming it though is the fact that we have lost nearly all our close games to teams we are about even with for two years now. I just don't think bad luck is the culprit for that. This team has some issues with closing games, weather it's a mental thing or it just so happens that our weaknesses just so happen to be in areas that a team would need to win close games, I'm not completely sure (though there is evidence that this team has some mental deficiencies.) It's fun to look at metrics like what Kenpom uses and say hey, were just unlucky but that stat is based off the idea (one that I imagine is highly researched) that says that you just don't win or lose all your close games so if you're losing more than you should you are unlucky.

Essentially, the stat says that choking really doesn't exist, it's all statistical based which for a sport like basketball that doesn't completely work (actually, that idea doesn't really work for any sport but especially this one.) In conclusion we are a combination of an unlucky team and a team that kind of chokes a little which is a lovely recipe for a team that has a record worse than what they should.

One other thing. I think it also shows that we are good (if you play close games with the best teams you are a good team) but not good enough blow out out other good teams meaning that we are leaving the game up to the luck gods and our ability to not execute in the final minutes. It's kind of Ferentz football-esque actually.
