Slightly OT, but Burt Reynolds has passed away

And, you're forgetting one. Smokey and the Bandit Part Uno was the cherry on top of the outlaw trucker movement, a movement that gave us great music like CW McCall's Convoy. And Cannonball Run was a helluva an attempt to capitalize on the star power of Burt Reynolds in a fast car.
And Frog (Sally Field who was romantically involved with Reynolds in real life at the time) wasn't a bad seat cover either.

CW McCall was an Iowa native, from Audubon. That may explain how he named dropped the city of Omaha at the end of "Convoy".

Some parts of that movie were filmed not far from where you now live. That movie did a great job of capturing the beauty of the rural south, particularly the north Georgia hills.

I went to the stock car race in Darlington on Sunday (no Coors there, only A-B products but thank God the track can sell beer on Sundays because you can't buy beer on Sundays anywhere near there) and I can assure you that the beauty in the rural south falls off pretty quickly as you get away from the mountains. That area of SC makes Humboldt, Iowa look like Paris or London.

Did he refuse to sign your Smokey and the Bandit lunchbox?
Side question - why in the hell don't they make lunch boxes anymore? Wanted to get my boy a paw patrol lunch box and they only sell these soft sided things that don't even include a damned thermos. Was looking at the classics on eBay and they're all like twenty freaking bucks. My mom tossed my Transformers and my brother's Star Wars lunch boxes. Unreal.

Never been to South Carolina but I believe Darlington is down in the flood plain, maybe what, an hour from the Atlantic?

Not too far from the Atlantic, but north of the Lowcountry. 150 feet above sea level. I think the summer in Iowa is about as bad or maybe worse than where I live, but down in Darlington, whew. You could cut that humidity with a knife.

I know they must have been made with some cancer causing metals or something. I think I had a vintage Yoda one that my Mom pitched too.

He was the envy of all us guys when he married Loni Anderson and I'm pretty sure he got to see Dolly Parton's bewbs in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.

RIP Stroker Ace!!!

I mentioned White Lightening in my above post. By far his most underrated movie, IMO.

Ned Beatty played the corrupt sheriff and was great. The movie just reeks deep south with the humidity, moonshining and back round music, complete with a Jews harp. Violence, sex and fast cars. Good stuff.

I loved him as Congressman David Dilbeck, I think he even won an academy award for his role in Striptease - hilarious. He matched every stereotype that I would expect a long term politician to have.
