Slightly OT, but Burt Reynolds has passed away

After viewing a rewards show several months ago in which he needed help from someone (Brad Pitt maybe?) to get up on the stage, I'm a bit surprised he lasted this long. He looked awful.

His career was up and down to say the least. I love some of his early movies, such as Smokey, Deliverance, Longest Yard and White Lightening, but he also made a bunch of complete duds. From a personal standpoint, he's notorious for making a multitude of bad decisions over the years. He always was a bit of a personality enigma.

Regardless, he's an icon and will be missed. RIP

I'm kind of at a loss for words right now, so please everyone, go home and hug your loved ones tonight.

I am so sorry, Ken.....

I am dedicating the Clone game to TheBurt.....

Two candles have been enlightened for him at the Basilica of Saint John.....

I pray that these humble efforts will ease the pain.....

When the shock wears away

Till the tears stop falling

When the bitterness dies

Then the pain will begin

Alas, we have lost a great one, Lads

I did like his cameo on the tv show King of Queens where he played the HS football coach at the high school Doug Heffernan attended............................I also like Burt's sitcom Evening Shade that aired in the early/mid 90's.

Deliverance was one of the only good movies he did although I thought Ned Beatty was a real scene stealer. It was hard to focus on Burt when Ned's rolling around squealing and, well, you know, just asking for it. Holy crap...someone must have handed the script to Ned with like 10 pages missing for him to say yes to that mpvie.

I'm sure I'll take heat for this, but Burt was an a-hole of a person.
Look, I know that we're all still angry that he pissed all over Sorrell Booke's grave by playing Jefferson Davis "Boss" Hogg in that abomination of a reboot of Dukes of Hazzard that Hollywood shit out, but the man just died. Show some damned respect.

Deliverance was...no, is...a classic. The Longest Yard was a great sports comedy.
And, you're forgetting one. Smokey and the Bandit Part Uno was the cherry on top of the outlaw trucker movement, a movement that gave us great music like CW McCall's Convoy. And Cannonball Run was a helluva an attempt to capitalize on the star power of Burt Reynolds in a fast car.

Yeah, I figured everybody was talking about Smokey and the Bandit. I'd rank em

Deliverance
Smokey and the Bandit
Longest Yard

Burt was director John Advildsen's first choice to play the character of Rocky Balboa. The Production company didn't want Stallone starring at all and suggested Paul Newman, Robert DiNiro, Ryan O'Neal, and James Caan among others. They turned up the heat on Stallone, eventually offering him 200K for the script. Stallone, who was struggling as an actor as much as Rocky was as a fighter, refused to cave in. He said they could have the script for free but has was playing Rocky. He finally got 20K plus a percentage of the gate. Not a bad move in the grand scheme of things.
