Size but no real post up options

It's really kind of frustrating that we do have all this length and size but yet we don't have a real post up threat, nor are our guards very good at feeding the post. White and Uthoff prefer to play in space and rarely take someone to the block. Woodbury tries but really isn't very effective unless he can catch it and shoot. If he puts it on the floor he rarely makes the shot. Gabe is our best post up guy but then our guards struggle feeding the post. Other than running the break, this should be the strength of this team but it's not and that's puzzling to me.

Woody constantly calls for it down low and they just ignore him.. it's pretty ridiculous every time I see it.

I agree, but you need someone that'll get'em the damn ball....All I see is dancing around that stupid perimeter looking for Og's to chuck one up w/2 seconds on the shot clock....blatantly dumb offense....And when we do, Woody gets it swatted in the cheap seats 9 times out of 10 b/c he can't jump off the ground...embarrassing to watch

Uthoff has the best back to the basket moves.
Hawkeyes should post Jarrod up, a lot more since he always has
Size and length on his defender.

With the exception of Uthoff no one knows how to play with their back to the basket. It is just not an Iowa problem it is basketball in general, today's bigs are highly skilled guys that like to hang out on the perimeter. A lot of big men like to play away from the basket as opposed to playing on the block that is what the game has evolved to.

People complain about Iowa's inability to feed the post I do not think it matters it would still end up in wasted possessions. Passing out of the block guys still have to hit shots.....Until that happens.........

Lack of physicality in the post is the biggest problem with this team.

Woodbury has no athleticism, White has no skill, Uthoff has no assertiveness, and Gabe lacks the experience but he and JU should get the ball on the block more often.

It doesn't help that our guys don't know how to get low and wide on the post up and our guards lack the 8th grade level skills of feeding the post.

This team could learn more about this part of the game in one day with Tom Davis than they could in a year with this staff. And I'm dead seriouse.

LOL.........yeah, we certainly need Woodbury to 'kick it out', instead of FINISHING at the rim.
Come on, we aren't talking Rocket surgery, or brain science.
FINISH Finnish, not Danish.

He**, I would not even mind seeing Aaron W Post-op once in a while.
Iowa has a lot of length that is NOT being utilized. (See UNI game)

Go Hawks

The guards alot of times don't even look to make a post feed. It's weird to watch for sure.

I've said this numerous time about Woody. He's the shortest 7 footer I've ever seen play. I think he plays the game with 20 lb weights attached to his ankles and has the shortest arms ever. I don't know how else to understand that a kid with his size and "ability" can't play better then he does. Since he was a 4 star stud recruit and been a D1 college ball player for 3 yrs how is he not able to jump over a phone book still? I want to know what kind of training they do because if he hasn't improved his vertical 1 inch in 3 yrs then we don't have the Chris Doyle of college basketball on staff that's for sure. I don't know maybe he's just physically incapable of improving due to coordination or something I dunno. But for crying out loud someone needs to light a fire under his arse cause I've seen high school girls play with more passion and aggressiveness then he does down low.

Geeesh, it is a message board, people have opinions, what did you expect a X and O breakdown from a bunch of ex-coaches....

haha, no... but I would expect that most peeps on this message board would recognize that our 4 leading scorers are indeed post players who score the majority of their points in the post. But whadda ya gonna do?

Fair enough.

You must be including the FT's in your scoring stats. Since most of their points are coming from the FT line. Who knew

Woodbury scouted was described as more of a finesse center right? Idk about you but i think an go to move for that description would be up and unders. When done right theyre a thing of beauty, hes just sometimes too predictable for shot blockers. if he cant get the footwork down for up and unders at least perfect a hook shot by your senior season.

But im not all that upset with him. Hes had some solid games but maybe two stuck out as him being a non factor.(one of which he got blocked twice in 3mins i think) Entry passes to post are pretty poor.
