Since Coach Jake outcoached Kruger & Self...

No he shouldn't be a lock, UNI is having a great run right now, and UNI is a good team but have people taken a look at his record at UNI against Big 6 conferences? Well since he became head coach in 2006 he is 8-7 with either 4 or 5 of those 8 wins against some bad Iowa/ISU teams in that time.

Someone else pointed this out before, but how is George Mason doing now after their run to the final 4 a few years ago?

Great post...and to add to that, he didn't outcoach UNLV he barely escaped that game, did he outcoach Self???? I think his guys out played the Kansas guys who sleep walked through that game until the last 3 minutes. IF Kansas would of played with their usual defensive intensity it wouldn't of been close. They are having a run, somebody usually does. He hasn't had to coach against BCS coaches night in and night out or recruit against them for B10 players.

I don't think he is the right fit at Iowa. Don't get me wrong, he is gonna go somewhere else and be successful and probably lead a few more teams to the big dance. But Iowa would not like his style. He is too focused on Defense and his offense is very vanilla, but that is why he is winning! He stresses defense more than any other coach I have seen. He doesn't care weather they win 99-98 or 45-40. All that matters is winning in his book. He recruits solid athletes that can compete at the div 1 level. He is not on the same level as McDermott, Jacobsen is more of an up-tempo guy when he wants to be. He also plays the opponents weaknesses, he will not continue to run ball screen after ball screen. His offense is more movement away from the ball and setting up the shooters.

I don't want him to come to Iowa, I am alum of UNI and have actually played golf and hung out with coach jake. he is a good guy and will make a big $$ in the next couple of years somewhere else. he will have success at that place as well, I just don't want him at Iowa.

Personally taking the Iowa job is a downgrade for him. Any coach that takes this position it is a downgrade. Lets Face it guys, Iowa has become the skid mark on basketball in the state of Iowa. No coach is gonna change that anytime soon.

Pearl is not coming, Drew is def not gonna come. The only one I can see leaving is Stallings from Vandy and that's it.

Step off the cliff....almost any job in the B10 is lucrative right now, with TV monies and expansion talk. If for no other reason as a spring board to a better gig. IF guys like Gottlieb, and Bilas are saying Iowa is a destination job then I tend to agree with them. Hell even Dickie V believes that.

That is rubbish. Nearly every coach is driven by 1 of 2 (if not both) things: money and ego. This should be a dream job for Jacobson or anyone else of his ilk; taking a huge pay increase and showing the nation how he turned around a Big 10 program.

I have to disagree here, I think Self got outcoached. Why did they wait so long to go to the press? UNI had trouble with it against UNLV also. If it weren't for the miracle comeback against Memphis, Self would be known as the ultimate choker.

Do I think Jacobson would be a good fit at Iowa? Not necessarily, but I think he's a hell of a coach. As we all know, recruiting is the key factor and you just won't ever know the answer to that part of it until after the hire. Regardless of the state of our program, it's easier to recruit players to a conference like the Big 10 than the MVC. There is no denying that. So it's not completely fair to look at George Mason and judge them for not becoming more of a powerhouse. They still play in an inferior league, and we'll never know what their coach could recruit at a bigger school unless he goes to one.

If Mac was having success at ISU Jake would be Iowa's coach next year. Since this is not the case I think Iowa will pass.

I agree with some of what your saying. Coaching in the MVC is not coaching in the B10, the guy has a good start, but I would feel better if his BCS record was more then it is. Self's teams do not press, it is not like they just say hop in a press and go. They were still close and once it got to the point of no return they had no choice. Did he outcoach Self, sure a little bit, but that doesn't mean he is ready for a BCS job. Being easier to recruit to is not the same....ask Lick and his staff. But I will give you he is headed in a good direction but at this point and time Barta would be committing career suicide with that hire.

If Jake is so great, how did LIck beat him 2 out of 3? Fans say they are sick of slow down. I hate to tell you but UNI plays slow down.

Just because a coach's team wins does not mean they OUTCOACHED somebody else. TL beat Michigan State his first year does that mean he outcoahced Izzo. Get off of the outcoached someone idea. There are many, many high school or small college coaches that are just as smart X's and O's wise and can make great adjustments as the coaches at the big schools. It comes down to getting players.

The reason lick couldn't recruit is because he did not establish a connection with several of the AAU coaches in the midwest! Lick wanted his own coaches to go out and scout and find players who were good high school players and could be turned into Big ten players.

Jacobsen's staff is very connected with the AAU teams and his assistants (Hogan) I think is the guys name. He is in contact with all of the AAU programs in the state of Iowa and the Midwest. Jacobsen's staff has brought in something like 5 kids from inner-city Minneapolis who have been all great ball players. Could you imagine what he could do if he was at a Big 10 school?

I think he would be a good hire for the program, but I know for a fact the fans would not like it. They would not like his style of play and empahsis on defense. The fans want an up-tempo coach who runs and guns all the time.

It wouldn't necessarily be the style of play I want but with all of the other "realistic" names being thrown out there I would take Jacobson over them and I have strongly been against hiring Jacobson.

UNI's record against the Big 6 is irrevelant...where's George Mason? one hit wonders, indeed....UNI? they've been in the Big Dance 5 out of last 7 years...that's consistency!
