Similar season to 2007-2008?

Maybe it's the optimist in me when it comes to Iowa Wrestling, but this season could turn out to be very similar to the 07-08 season. We had a lot of newcomers in the lineup ranked preseason in the 8 to 20 ranged that outperformed their expectations. I like what I've seen so far from these young guys, but we'll get a better feel when they wrestle ISU this week. At least in a dual format I think we match up very well with Cornell. Here's what I came up with when looking at the rosters:

McDonough - Perrelli 4-0
Moore/Clark/Ramos - Stanzione 7-0
Ballweg - Hicks 10-0
Chiri - Dake 10-4
St. John - Meagher 13-4
Kerr - Kerber 13-7
Lofthouse - Lewnes 13-10
Grambrall - Bosak 13-13
Lofthouse - Simaz 13-16
Raising - Snyder 16-16

I don't think it's out of the question that we could pull upsets at 165 and 184. We could also lose HWT and 141 just as easily. Upsets aside I see this one coming down to bonus points.
 


I see your point that a line-up with a bunch of new faces could great, but there are more young line-ups that aren't great.

Here's what we got in the 2008 NCAA's:
2 champions (Metcalf was new in the line-up)
1 Runner-up (Slaton was new in the line-up)
a 3rd place (Borshel was new in the line-up)
a 5th place
2 sixth places
M* won a few on the backside, a match or two from AA
No points out of 2 weights (141 LeClere was 0-2, and 197 dnq)

Will we get points out of 8 guys this year? 3 wrestlng on Saturday night? 7 AA? AA out of alot of first year in the line-up guys?
I'm leaning toward no, but Midlands will get us a better guage.

That's a good point, but we also ran away with the title in '08. I don't think this team runs away with the title, but I think they have a better chance at contending than most people over at The Mat seem to think. I think the general concensus is that we will finish somewhere in the 5-10 range.
 








It's kind of strange to hear you guys talk about wrestling like this. I'm kind of new to it (my high school team SUCKED), and I enjoy it. But damn, you guys get into it lol.

why is it strange?? would you say the same to a person who talks about iowa football like this?

It's only the greatest sport ever. Too many Iowa FB fans loving to brag about settling mediocrity while ignoring one of the greatest dynasties in any sport right at their doorstep.
