Signed Letters Coming In

Seems like a good class. Its hard to look at what Michigan and Penn State did and not cringe though. The playing field...she is not even.
That's why I'm not going to look. College football has nothing remotely close to an even playing field.

“Solid class but few, if any, headliners” is what I heard one BTN analyst say about our class. That pretty well describes a good share of how our seasons play out........gee, maybe there is a correlation between talent and outcome on the field.

My opinion ......... B- when compared against our normal outcomes, C when compared against the rest of the landscape in college football.

Hmmm -- Maybe Iowa should have gone 4-8, 6-6, 7-5 and 6-6, respectively, then we'd be a lot happier. NW totally got screwed by winning the West.

I would not be happier with those records. Shit I’m not happy with 8-4. I was simply stating facts of where Iowa ranked in its division according to those particular rankings. My level of happiness, opinions, etc have nothing to do with those numbers

I watched the kid from Van Meter play a couple of times . If they can put weight on him he will look like a TJ Watt with a Butkus type attitude. Kid is a stud

Maybe not you, but too many people put too much stock in these rankings, at least once you're at the 25 - 30 +/- range. Nebraska is a great example in recent years.

If you haven't recognized recruiting at Iowa has picked up in the past few years...look at the product on the field. Are their skill position upgrades we can make, sure. If you ask me to assess the 2018 season, it boiled down to QB play. If Stanley had an very good to great year...this team wins 11 games and we are in the B10 Championship. It's hard to say the rest of the team wasn't good enough. We outplayed Wisconsin, Penn State, and NW...we just didn't make enough plays at the QB position if you ask me.

As for the recruiting...Fant, Hockenson, Nelson, Hooker, and Jackson have a chance to go pro...as underclassmen. You then look at who saw significant playing time as young players...Banwart, Colbert, Wirfs, Hankins, Brents, Moss, Stone, etc...hell, Smith and Smith-Marsette are young players. These guys are all competing and excelling at their positions.

I could see if we were 8-4 and got bitch slapped and physically abused in the 4 losses, but that's not what happened. If a few things go our way against Wisconsin and Penn State...10-2...and if Skowronic or whatever his name is doesn't get credit for trapping a ball in the end zone...well 11-1. Point to what you want about the losses...coaching whatever...the team was good and close to having a special season.

The overall point, don't listen to the pundits....they are looking at star ratings or hype. Iowa has improved recruiting and it's showing on the field.

I think this is the theme for the KF era, "close"

In 2002, Iowa was a meltdown against ISU away from going undefeated and possibly to the BCS championship game
In 2005, Iowa was close to finishing 9-2 (7-1) which would have tied them for the B1G championship but they couldn't close that season
In 2008, with a defense that sent all 11 starters to at least an NFL camp, Iowa was close to going undefeated. Instead they lost 4 games
In 2009, Iowa was close to winning a B1G championship but they couldn't beat NW's 2nd and 3rd string QB in Kinnick.
In 2010 they were close to going undefeated but lost 5 games instead, again because they couldn't close
In 2015 they were close to the playoff but couldn't stop an MSU team with a QB with a bum shoulder

I'm not with the KF hater crew that thinks the guy sucks at coaching (although his offense is pretty bad). But what we saw this year is basically what Iowa is at their best under KF. A team that's close but doesn't quite have the strong enough mental makeup and/or the physical talent to make it a special season.

Had the bounces gone their way like they did in 2015, they probably go 10-2 and lose to Ohio St in the B1G championship game. Again, they would have been close.

I used the BTN analyst (Howard Griffith) example because I agree with him not because he's a pundit. By the way some of these pundits make a living viewing film of many teams over the season, visiting with coaches, attending games, and have played Power 5 football. I didn't see a season of "if's and but's, I saw a season of a team that couldn't capitalize on numerous opportunities including our schedule. That talent didn't show strength in our core competency .......rushing. We also lack speed at the weapon positions.

I would agree that talent has been improving but not to the degree where I think it puts us in a better position to better separate ourselves against others in the BIG. I think we're seeing improvement from many of the programs that typically lag us..........and next year's schedule, ouch. I'm a GO HAWKS guy but I've learned over the years what to expect in the large majority of seasons so I call myself a realist these days. By the way, I did give them a B- compared to most seasons. Is that not considered good?

Are there any unbiasd sources (no Iowa ties) out there that call this Iowa recruiting class very good? I'd enjoy reading if it exists.

Can you please stop with your incessant virtue signaling. How messed up are you that you're terrified of being called a hater, when you're well aware most "haters" are program lovers capable of making the same points you do without the lame disclaimer.
