SI college sports crime...Iowa 2nd

This is why I have quit reading SI, listening to sports radio, or watching ESPN. You can't believe anything the "journalists" say. It's all twisted so it meets their needs. It's ridiculous and I don't care to hear what they say anymore. Until people start digging deeper into the issues, instead of just throwing up numbers and then judging programs/people etc. It's ridiculous and annoying.

"The number of average college students with the same criminal record? According to this article from Corvallis, Oregon’s Daily Barometer, 3.45%. That’s right: Your typical college football player is one-half of one percent more likely to have a criminal conviction. To put that in perspective, a team of 85 players has half a person more convicted criminals on it than a sample of 85 students drawn randomly. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife."

Not to minimize "crime", but if a lot of municipalities had there way they would find a way to make everything a crime. Case in point..............OK, Ok, I could go on and on, when you say a crime is a crime, give me a break. If we didn't live in a country of sheep, half the laws would be repelled. I love people that love to protect us from ourselves by making pretty much anything they don't agree with a crime. Oh by the way, there is an old ordinance on the books in Louisiana that states it is illegal to wear a goatee if you haven't paid the fee for a permit to wear one. ITS A CRIME!!!!!
I disagree. If it's against the law, it's a crime. True, many of these laws are an outdated joke, and cops and judges normally don't try to enforce them, but they can be jerks and enforce them.

But laws are laws, even if they are terribly stupid. All of us probably break many laws every day. Most just dont get caught.

Nobody has made this argument. What is being criticized here (again) is the piece itself.

Other college towns aren't as lenient?

I love it when Iowa fans act like their school is on the up and up and no other school is or could have the same level of integrity as Iowa.

Of course the problems we have can be explained away in the manner some here suggest. Other schools, meanwhile, are obviously getting away with more than Iowa because they don't enforce things as strongly at those schools as they do at Iowa. How could they, they don't have the values that we have, obviously.

Those are nice statements, but they are not backed by anything factual. They are simply opinions of someone on this board trying to prop up their school. Some of you accuse the media of writing a story without doing research and then in defending Iowa you do the same thing but are critical of the media for doing what you are also doing.

I an mot saying we are what the article might lead one to believe by being third in their rankings. But I am saying Iowa fans act like we are always handicapped compared to other schools because we do it the right way and there is no anyone else could.
