Shout out to Woody

Eh, wtf.

Is this third grade 2016 where participation trophies are awarded for hardest non athlete?

1. Every throw in to the post was immediately thrown out by Woody (no attempt to score).

2. The next time I see his no-blocking-out-***-standing-around-with-T-rex-short-arms trying to catch a rebound while some 6' 3" dude is jumping over him for an O bound im going to lose my mind.

3. He can score non contested layups, 72% of the time.

4. Literally should look into bull fighting. Nickname should be ole. The Indiana game some backup dude made him his wife. Same this game, no help backside, goes too high in the zone, Wiscy had like 10 uncontested dunks. He got driven on countless times. Has no help D to give. Literally is a cancer offensively.

If you like wacky inflatable gangly non athletic centers who grab rebounds at their chest and flail elbows and constantly provide turnovers...hes your man.

I like some of the aggressiveness, but ffs, lets have an actual college center for a top 10 team. My god, evidently 3 people above have zero clue about actual basketball.

I love hustle, and I thought he did that VERY VERY well. He dove, he fought, he tried....sorry, still not a good center. This isnt YMCA ball for hustlers.

Only one on your list that really resonates with me is #1. I wondered why he wouldn't even pivot and turn towards the basket to threaten a shot and make the D adjust. Just reveals he has no confidence in his shot. But overall he was a man out there.

Woody looked like Frazier at the end of the game.....you know like when Muhammad Ali pummeled him in their first fight and Frazier won the decison. Hell of an effort, but the guy looked like he was going to drop dead. Worried about the conditioning level of this team right now among other things.

Yeah, but Frazier did knock Ali on his fanny that fight and Woody knocked himself down some Badgers as well. But our team lost the decision....

Woody played his *** off on the boards. It's a shame other didn't show up because he clearly did on that aspect of the game. I won't knock his offense because Iowa didn't get it to him enough.

I've been anti-Woody since he was a freshman. But I've gave him credit when due. Last night was a hell of an effort on the glass.

It struck me again last night that Woodbury is the heart and soul of this team. It felt like the season was on the line last night, and in my opinion, Woodbury is the guy on the team who displays a fierce competitive spirit every second of every game, even when on the bench. He comes to win. He never backs down from any moment or to any opponent. He never forgets who he is. It seemed like he was the lone Hawkeye mixing it up with three Badgers on every rebound last night.

I hate seeing him ignored on offense, too. Yes, he's limited, but good things happen when the ball moves through him. Namely, that the ball keeps moving. I don't understand why we don't see more of that. I love Jok and Uthoff's offense, but in my opinion, Iowa becomes a very average team when those two guys start holding the ball and/or settling for threes while everyone else stands around. Iowa is a dangerous team when that ball is swinging side to side.

Indeed, I give him a lot of credit for last night, but also blame. When he got tired, he really got tired. He looked like he was going to die out on the floor. He was a big asset when he had something to give, but became an almost total liability once he lost his energy. I don't think I've ever seen someone fade quite like that on the floor.

I didn't say he didn't try. I even posted that I thought he tried VERY VERY hard. My point is you can try all you want and give it all you want, but in the end you can still suck at center for a top 10 team.

If you can't see that, watch other teams play.
Lets be honest. EVERY team in the league knows Woody's not gonna shoot the ball. Like the 12th poster said he's gonna kick the ball out. No player is leaving any shooter and in fact are anticipating the kick out pass. Woody in fours years has not developed a signature move, or any move down low. Fran chose not to develop players early in the year leaving us paper thin in the post. I love Woody's hustle and desire to win but that can't take the place of good footwork and some sort of offensive game. His defense against other bigs is good, but having him trap and chase guards at the top of the key is useless. He doesn't close out well and picks up cheap fouls. Woody has been a rebounding machine of late but if thats all we are going to get from our starting center don't expect a long stay in either tournament.

Yep, if he doesn't even face up or make a motion to shoot, D isn't going to honor him & sag off.

I appreciate his effort, unfortunately he wouldn't have gotten all those O rebounds if Iowa would have shot the ball better. I guess not always a good sign.

I appreciate his effort, but, I will also be fine when he graduates. Does that make sense???????????
