Should the first call go to Bob Stoops?

This may very well be it for the Ferentz Era at the end of this season. Or do we go in a completely different direction and don't go after anyone with Hawkeye ties?

Even after all of the racism turmoil? I don't know, this feels like the last chapter.
I think it would make Barta look even worse and bring in too many "why didn't you just get rid of him last year after the player accusations?"

Lol. Kerck is going nowhere until his contract is up and Brian will get the HC job. Once that happens KF and GB will retire at the same time.

The racism stuff is all the more reason for him to stay. He’s got to stick around long enough to try and repair his image.
At 65 years old? USC would have been a good swan song. Probably just like Fry with the win over Washington in the Sun Bowl.

Actually Fry had better bowl performance the next year by completely boat racing Texas Tech in the Alamo Bowl, but point well taken.

If this goes any further off the rails it going to start feeling like 1998. Early Ferentz/Fry holdovers like Derek Pagel, Matt Bowen and Anthony Herron have said discipline was lacking in Fry's final season.

There are early signs of that again. I've always said that the loss of his father at a young age had enough of an effect on Bobby Stoops to convince him to get out of big time coaching early. Now I wonder if, like recently hired Tony Larussa, that Stoops would come back for one job only. Probably still wouldn't be enough to convince Barta to consider him.

If he knew back then after the bowl game what would happen this summer I’d say you’re right. Zero chance he goes anywhere now.

He’s not retiring or getting fired. The “racism turmoil” was over-rated.

Take solace that BF won’t be the next head coach. And Bob Stoops isn’t coming to Iowa.

Not sure what you mean by over-rated. But a 208 season after the offseason mess does not look good.

I say good riddance. Clean house and hire the Costal Carolina coach.

If you can convince him the Iowa job is a step up from KSU. The same dudes he got and developed at NDSU and KSU would be the same type that he would get at Iowa.

Brian Ferentz may be the head coach at Iowa some day, but that direct path was killed this Summer. Unless Iowa becomes super explosive, super dynamic on offense which would trump everything.....you can't sell him as being the successor.

Firing a winning coach and hiring the hot next thing or big name has worked well for the program to the west.
