Should the first call go to Bob Stoops?

Bielema. He had success at Wisco, and is an Iowa alum. After failing at Arkansas, maybe he could recreate the success he had in Madison at Iowa.

Also I would make a run at Luke Fickell. He could recruit well in the Ohio/Pennsylvania area and he may be ready for a bigger job if Cincy is left out of the playoffs this year as an undefeated team.

Damario Solomon-Simmons, the attorney representing the ex-players, may have more to say than this year's won-loss record. If he is able to actually bring a case to court, this would be the second discrimination case against this Athletic Department. Unless I missed it, Iowa is the only P5 program facing similar racial discrimination civil charges. So Barta & Ferentz can't even play the "Yeah. but what about ... " card. At some point the BoR may have to cut their losses and move along. Harreld's resignation sets the table in preparation for a settlement.

I'd agree, IF we were talking about AD.

I don't think Stoops will coach again, but I could see him considering replacing Barta. The question is whether or not he would feel comfortable with the fund-raiser aspect. Hard to say, but at first glance that's not something in the job description that appears to be in his wheelhouse.

Not sure what you mean by over-rated. But a 208 season after the offseason mess does not look good.

I say good riddance. Clean house and hire the Costal Carolina coach.
I agree KF isn't getting fired. But I think those that think the racism problem is no big deal are dead wrong. I think it has affected the present players and will adversely affect recruiting going forward.

What if we are on the precipice of another dark era of Iowa football? Can you imagine how hard it would be to raise funds if we had a perpetual 3 or 4 win football team?

How about the Stoops at Kentucky? His first name escapes me right now. Is it Mark Stoops?

God I had to go through the 60s and 70s. Please not another one.

No doubt. It's something that any potential incoming AD would have to consider. There are a lot of examples of a good AD turning around a program, though. I guess it's possible that someone like Stoops (who's not short on ego) could take that as a challenge.

Oh, God no. A return to those dark ages would encompass my 60's and 70's.

Ironically, social and ethnic unrest, such as the player boycott in 1968 or 69, helped usher in the last Iowa football dark age.

Can't believe KF stood by while they got rid of one of his assistants and I would think a friend. What kind of person(leader) lets others take the blame? It's his show , he should be held accountable. It looks like the team is not getting along by actions on the field. I think it's time to go with someone else, someone new to the program!! Get rid of GB too for not manning up and taking care of the situation.

You are dreaming and this lawsuit is a sham. They might settle for small time cash but no Ferentz will ever be fired by Iowa period.

I think KC Chiefs Offensive Coordinator, Eric Bieniemy would like a head coaching job, but I'd think he wants it in the pros. But that's who I'd look for.

Nothing against Eric Sleeping With Bieniemy as Berman used to call him, but I would never want Iowa to hire a pro OC who has been coaching the best of the best. I don't know how many times guys like Norv Turner or Charlie Weis or Joe Philbin or whoever have to go from driving a Ferrari to sucking ass until people realize that coaching the '90's Cowboys, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers or Mahomes is NOT a valid credential to getting a HC job. Anyone can win if you have a loaded offense or a GOAT challenger at QB.

Bieniemy and Reid are the architects of the offense. They also evaluated the talent to run schemes. Wins and losses fall on their shoulders. Everything from talent to preparation to in-game play calling. They aren't just sitting around watching a good game. Well, maybe the coaches you mentioned did.
